Hello,
Hope someone can help here. Been around the forums...but no knowledge so far. I have a Compaq Presario, prebundled with everything already installed (OEM) XP Home addition. No cds. About 3 years ago the system tried to download sp2. Complete crash. Microsoft support couldn't help. Finally got everything up and running, but cannot tell you which sp 1 or 2 we have. Lost welcome screen, administration, restore points, a ton of stuff!!
Last week my daughter tried to open an attachment and a zillion screens came up. When we tried to turn it on the next day we had - unmountable _boot_volume. Also the screen for computer needed to close to prevent damage to the computer. Restarted in windows normally and we got this - Line 18335 of the INF file \cmdcons\textsetup.sif is invalid, tried the 6 floopy boot (downloaded from a site on the internet(Compaq no longer has the cds to buy , hit the fourth disk and got - sbp2port.sys is corrupted. I opened that same attachment at work, and so did my sister. Neither of ours found anything wrong with the attachment. Cannot get into the computer at all. Cannot download anything. So I thought I would try one more time before sending this piece of junk in to see if they can unscramble all this mess.
Thanks for any help I can get.

You can try to do a repair install but you will need a Windows XP CD.

http://www.geekstogo...ws-XP-t138.html

If the above does not work you now will have to find a windows XP cd(oem will work)so you can install the Recovery Console. Heres the link to the microsoft description website.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314058

Once you have recovery console installed, you will need to do the CHKDSK command to see if RC can fix the computer.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315265

If that does not work you may have to install a new OS from the Windows CD.
