OK, so, after getting vista running again, and having various other problems, I have time to research a problem I got before vista packed in. I had vundo, got it fixed, and now on startup I get the following message :

Could not load or run 'C:\Users\Connor\AppDataLocal\mljkh.exe' specified in the registry. Make sure the file exists or remove the reference to it in the registry.

That message suggests that the file no longer exists, so it can't be causing any harm, but I can't find it in the registry, and it's showing up in my HJT log:

F3 - REG:win.ini: load=C:\Users\Connor\AppData\Local\Temp\mljkh.exe

How can I get rid of the annoying message?
Where abouts in the registry will the file be?

(I have registry backups. . . . I'm not a computer idiot :), but not an experienced registry editor. )

Hello Connor D, my name is fenzodahl512 and welcome to Geekstogo.. Please do the following...

Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) from HERE or HERE and save it to your Desktop.
  • Close all other windows before proceeding.
  • Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
  • Please let your firewall allow the scanning/downloading process.
  • When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt -- please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.
If you are using Vista, you need to right-click at dss.exe icon and choose Run as Administrator

Regards

While the scanner is going I'll tell you about the condition of my computer :

It's quick to respond, handles vista's aero very well - even the flip 3d.
Shutdown is fine, though I've noticed starting up is 'dodgy' :-
The dual boot selection is Ok, the loading bar is fine.
After the loading bar there is quite a long hang on a black screen with just the cursor, then just a black screen for 2-3 seconds.
When the vista orb appears and the startup sound is played, the image sometimes 'messes up' and the sound doesn't run smooth, but I have a feeling that is just my computer spec.

You have got rid of this message for me, for which I thank you :

Could not load or run 'C:\Users\Connor\AppDataLocal\mljkh.exe' specified in the registry. Make sure the file exists or remove the reference to it in the registry.

I'm also one of the unlucky people who've been having problems with certain updates on windows update, the main culperate being update KB938371

P.S, the Kaspersky GUI seems to have changed, you might want to update your canned speech :)

It Scanned both partition of my drive, which means it scanned both of my operating systems, though XP should be clean, so hopefully the infections are in the vista (this) side.

now you can only save an HTML file of the report .. I'll copy and paste the main bits from it.

Ok.. Kaspersky only find one file that is bad.. D:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Installs\btyh.exe so please delete it manually..

And just want to double check with you.. do you still get below error?

Could not load or run 'C:\Users\Connor\AppDataLocal\mljkh.exe' specified in the registry. Make sure the file exists or remove the reference to it in the registry.
