I'm trying to get rid of the spyware and malware demons. I have followed the "You Must Read This Before Posting A Hijackthis Log, Malware Cleaning Guide", but have not been able to get thru all the scans. The anti-malware, super anti-spyware and spyware doctor run for a few seconds, then the computer restarts. I have run the Hijackthis log and the Panda scan (both files uploaded). Seems that the logical next step is to determine which of the little boogers need to go, but I don't know how to eliminate the false positives. Any help would be appreciated.

I ran Hijackthis and pasted the file below. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi there and sorry for the delay. What symptoms are you experiencing ?

Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Close all other windows before proceeding.
  • Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt -- please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.

Thank you for the help.

Symptoms:
1) CPU shuts down & restarts every time Norton live update runs or when Norton attempts a scan. Same same with any attempt to run a number of other spyware/malware program scans.
2) Any attempt to use Internet Explorer results in a pop up warning window that says, "Attention! Some dangerous Trojan horses detected in your system. Microsoft Windows XP files corrupted.
This may lead to the destruction of important files in C:\WINDOWS. Download protection software now!

Click OK to download the antispyware. (Recommended)"

A click on the "OK" button results in a pop-up box that says,

Name: ieav.exe
Type: Application, 1.2 MB
From: ieavdownloadstar.com

A click on Cancel button results in several more of the same pop-ups. (Screen prints attached for your ref.) Pop-up occurs numerous times, usually when page is downloading another frame, but also if I attempt to proceed to another page or access other things on the current web page.

3) Occasionally, when attempting to access a Favorites web page, I get a redirect to a Google search results page that contains porn.

Deckard scans are pasted below.

Main.txt

OK lets start the process :)

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malicious sites can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 6 and save it to your desktop.
  • Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 6...allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Read the License Agreement and then check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement". The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save the file to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove Programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check (highlight) any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u6-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.

THEN

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

O2 - BHO: Sigma plugin - {7DBF8390-552B-4D55-9F62-00D032032691} - C:\WINDOWS\pusant16a.dll

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Close HiJackThis.

NEXT

http://www.bleepingc...to-use-combofix

This includes installing the Windows XP Recovery Console in case you have not installed it yet. It is imperative that you install this as it will enable a system recovery in the event of problems

For more information on the Windows XP Recovery Console read http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314058.

Once you install the Recovery Console, when you reboot your computer, you'll see the option for the Recovery Console now as well. Don't select Recovery Console as we don't need it. By default, your main OS is selected there. The screen stays for 2 seconds and then it proceeds to load Windows. That is normal.

Post the log from ComboFix when you've accomplished that, along with a new HijackThis log.

Whew! I am very thankful to have you leading me down the paths of righteousness. I'd never get there on my own! Here's what I've done.

Old Java removed; new Java installed.

HijackThis scan completed and Fix Checked completed; log copied and pasted below. (The irritating pop-up issue now seems to be resolved!)

OTMoveIt2 downloaded and run; log copied and pasted below.

ComboFix downloaded and run; log copied and pasted below. I ran into two or three errors during the process and captured them as screen prints in a Word document (attached). (Will post log to the forum momentarily.)

XP recovery console installed.

Still something amiss. I ran the Norton live update, which went well -- no sudden shutdown & reboot. However, after the update I ran the program and voila! It shut down during the scan. I also received a notice that the phishing filter had not been updated, then I got a notice that Norton is not my default phishing filter, would I like it to be?

OK lets have a deeper look to see if anything else is hiding and annoying Norton

Download OTScanit to your Desktop and double-click on it to extract the files. It will create a folder named OTScanIt on your desktop.
  • Close ALL OTHER PROGRAMS.
  • Open the OTScanit folder and double-click on OTScanit.exe to start the program.
  • Check the box that says Scan All User Accounts
  • Check the Radio buttons for Files/Folders Created Within 90 Days and Files/Folders Modified Within 90 Days
  • Under Additional Scans check the following:
    • Reg - Desktop Components
    • Reg - Disabled MS Config Items
    • File - Additional Folder Scans
    • File - Purity Scan
  • Now click the Run Scan button on the toolbar.
  • Let it run unhindered until it finishes.
  • When the scan is complete Notepad will open with the report file loaded in it.
  • Click the Format menu and make sure that Wordwrap is not checked. If it is then click on it to uncheck it.
Please attach the log in your next post.

To attach a file, do the following:
  • Click Add Reply
  • Under the reply panel is the Attachments Panel
  • Browse for the attachment file you want to upload, then click the green Upload button
  • Once it has uploaded, click the Manage Current Attachments drop down box
  • Click on Posted Image to insert the attachment into your post

OK lets try this little fix first.. Then run Norton again, if it should stop then try re-installing as it may be corrupted

Start OTScanit. Copy/Paste the information in the quotebox below into the pane where it says "Paste fix here" and then click the Run Fix button.

[Files/Folders - Modified Within 90 days]
NY -> symlcsv1.exe -> C:\WINDOWS\Temp\symlcsv1.exe
[Empty Temp Folders]

The fix should only take a very short time. When the fix is completed a message box will popup telling you that it is finished. Click the Ok button and Notepad will open with a log of actions taken during the fix. Post that information back here along with a new Hijackthis log.

I will review the information when it comes back in.

Also let me know of any problems you encountered performing the steps above or any continuing problems you are still having with the computer.

THEN

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.
Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediatly.

I have more tools in my armoury :)

We will now do a deep search of your processes and files

Download avz4.zip from here
  • Unzip it to your desktop to a folder named avz4
  • Double click on AVZ.exe to run it.
  • Run an update by clicking the Auto Update button on the Right of the Log window: Posted Image
  • Click Start to begin the update
Note: If you recieve an error message, chose a different source, then click Start again

  • Start AVZ.
  • Choose from the menu "File" => "Standard scripts " and mark the "Healing/Quarantine and Advanced System Investigation" check box.
  • Click on the “Execute selected scripts”.
  • Automatic scanning, healing and system check will be executed.
  • A logfile (avz_sysinfo.htm) will be created and saved in the LOG folder in the AVZ directory as virusinfo_syscure.zip.
  • It is necessary to reboot your machine, because AVZ might disturb some program operations (like antiviruses and firewall) during the system scan.
  • All applications will work properly after the system restart.

When restarted

  • Start AVZ.
  • Choose from the menu "File" => "Standard scripts " and mark the “Advanced System Investigation" check box.
  • Click on the "Execute selected scripts".
  • A system check will be automatically performed, and the created logfile (avz_sysinfo.htm) will be saved in the LOG folder in the AVZ directory as virusinfo_syscheck.zip.

Attach both zip files to your next post
