Hi

Hope somebody can help me, a friend gave me a pc to look at as it wont start up. When i switch it on all the lights flash but thats about it. The screen goes black and sometimes has flashing white boxes on it.
I have tried using a pci graphics card (was using on board graphics) in it but this had no effect. Running on windows 98

have you tried changing the brightness of the monitor, making sure its not set to 0

wel this could be several different things. i would first while the computer is on touch the screen to see if the monitor is good you should have stactic electricity when you touch it. then i would take every card out of the main board except the video and ram. unless it is on board. in this case it could be even a bios problem. i have also experienced black screens with ram failure. you could try new ram and make sure you have the right type installed.

have tried the brightness no different.

when i turn it on i dont get all the bios infomation that normally comes up
