Hello,

I downloaded hijack this to find out why I cant delete some downloaded files on my desktop. The files are install programs from TriMedia. I also noticed several programs that have been noted that are no longer installed on my computer, I have marked them in bold. Please let me know what I can fix/delete.

Thanks much
-Hegemon

Hi there, and welcome! My name is Kat, and I'll be helping you to get your computer fixed up and on the run again! You may want to print these instructions or save them to a NotePad file on your desktop to make it easier for you to follow each step in order!

Before we tackle the infections on your machine, I need you to do something very important. It is not a good idea to run HijackThis from a "temp" location. Please save Hijack This in a permanent folder (i.e. C:\HJT). This ensures backups are saved and accessible.

First of all, this entry makes me nervous a little: O1 - Hosts: (REMOVED BY HEGEMON)

Is this something safe that you have in your hosts file intentionally, and just didn't want me to see? If so that is fine. But normally things won't appear in your hosts file unless they are put there by various hijackers. I just want to double check that with you to be on the safe side.

All of the 09 and 016 entries you marked are what's called "leftovers" from files/programs that you have removed. That's why they are still showing up! There are only a few things that I recommend removing along with your bolded entries, so let's get to it! :tazz:

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

Kat,

Thank you very much for your quick reply. The information I snipped was a private URL to a clients test webserver that I didnt wish to make public. I added the the information to my hosts file manually so I know it wasnt put there by a trojan. I will post again when I have completed the HijackThis removals you suggested.

Thanks again,
-Hegemon

That is perfectly acceptable for the Hosts file entry. I just wanted to double check that it was something legitimate! :tazz: I will watch for the new log!

You can safely remove that 016 you highlighted as well. Is everything running ok now? Any other problems?

Well I am still having problems deleting the TryMedia installer files. Its a EXE on the desktop that was used to download their trialware game. It doesnt have a uninstall in the windows area and when I attempt to delete the files it says they are in use by another person/program. *sigh* I e-mailed TryMedia about it but got some generic response about uninstalling programs.

Save me Kat! :tazz:
