Hi

I hope someone can help - I'm completely lost on this one.

I did something very stupid .... I downloaded an executable file from a site that wasn't 100% secure (simulator games site & other warez stuff). I checked the file with AVG 8.0 before running it and it got a clean bill of health, but since running it any time I either try to change or open a new page on internet explorer or try to open a folder in Windows Explorer I get a fake security message advising me:

Attention, Dangerous Trojan horses detected in your system. Microsoft Window XP files are corrupted. This may lead to the destruction of key files in C:\Windows. Download protection software now! Click OK to download the antispyware. (recommended) and then shows two buttons - Yes & No

I know enough not to click on either the Yes or No buttons.

The pop-up that comes up cannot be closed by either clicking on the x in the top right corner or by right clicking on the info bar. The only way to close it down is to enter Task Manager and end the program from there. It freezes the program that was being used when it pops up and this closes when you end the security error.

It doesn't effect Firefox.
I've run AVG8.0 and it gave a clean bill of health except for one warning as follows:
HJLM\SOFTWARE\Perfectnav Found AdwareKeenValue
I tried to heal it using this, but no luck.

I've also run Ad-Aware SE and it found 3 dangerous objects and supposedly healed them - but still the problem persists.

I have already deleted the file that I downloaded and emptied my recycle box.

I downloaded Hijack this and the log is as below:

End of file - 9146 bytes

I've downloaded killboot.exe but don't know which files to destroy

I've deleted all the files in the windows temp file (and WI NT Temp)

I think the problem is in my registry, but don't know how to get to it with windows explorer no working - I'm also not sure what I should be looking for or deleting.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Hello, my name is fenzodahl512 and welcome to Geekstogo... One advise.. You go to warez site, you will get infected..

Please do the following...

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from HERE or HERE

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Full Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.
Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediatly.

NEXT

Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) from HERE or HERE and save it to your Desktop.
  • Close all other windows before proceeding.
  • Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
  • Please let your firewall allow the scanning/downloading process.
  • When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt -- please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.

Please post these logs in your next reply.. Please post each log in separate post..

1. Malwarebytes'
2. Deckard System Scanner (both main.txt and extra.txt)

Downloaded malwarebytes did a scan and it found 7 trojan horses hidden round my system that neither AVG or Adaware didn't spot.

Quarantined them and everything appears okay - will run another couple of deep scans to make sure.

Many thanks for your help, much appreciated.

Normally stay away from Warez sites and shall stick to this in the future
