I have a friend with a vista machine ( HOME Premium ) that doesn't want to boot... When you try to boot it upright it just beeps and then the monitor goes dark and has no signal.... If you lay it down sometimes it will boot.... he says.... what I've gotten is

Windows failed to start it may be because of new hardware or new software

file : \windows\system32\config\system

status: 0xc000014c

I'm researching this but I'm not terribly familiar with Vista yet so any ideas would help... google has not yeilded anything relating to windows on this so far.... Oh and it sounds like three or maybe four quick beeps that is when I can get it to boot that far...

specs:
EVGA motherboard 122-ck-nf63-br
Core 2 Duo 1.6ghz
EVGA GF 8800gtx
4x1gb Corsair ddr2
Sony DVDrom
? DVDRW
Western Digital wd3300 sata hd
Vista Home premium

--- edit ---

just as I was posting this I talked to him and he said to try with only 2 gb of memory and then after a few attempts it finally booted to safe mode so it may be a memory issue?
