Hi,

Having a similar problem with aurora to many people. I ran all the checks mentioned on your site. The house call virus check found nail.exe and the other file osckqfebh.exe, thisis the one from directrevenue apparently its a buddy, deleted them but they came back within seconds as usual. Spy Sweeper also finds abetterinternet adware each time it runs, it deletes but that also rturns very quickly. I also ran a program called hitmanpro which seems to have solved a lot of the problems. I no longer get ads popping up but aurora still appears on the task bar and every few mins norton internet security detects osckqfebh.exe trying to access the internet. Internet explorer is running pretty slowly, firefox seems to be ok though. Below is a copy of my hijack this report. Your help would be much appreciated

Thanks

**Note** DO NOT REBOOT THE PC During the removal process. If you do the filenames will change.

Download FindIt's.zip to your desktop: http://forums.net-in...=post&id=142443

1. Unzip/extract the files inside to a folder on your desktop.
2. Open the folder and run FindIt's.bat and wait for notepad to open a text file. It will take awhile so please be patient ...
3. Then post the results here please, along with the new HijackThis log.

If you want, try running the Ewido program first:

Download ewido security suite from here http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

Update it’s database from here.. http://www.ewido.net...wnload/updates/
Run a scan and let it clean the PC.

Ran ewido, it found a lot of stuff that nothing else has. Is it worth paying for the liscence fee when the free trial runs out or is it adequate? It detected nail and osckqfebh.exe. It said there was an error while cleaning osckqfebh.exe although it appears to have gone. Below is the new hijack-this log.

I heard that Ewido has a free version. Look around in the Ewido program and see if you can activate and use the free one instead - if you intend to keep it. If you keep it, uninstall Norton. Keep in mind though, that there is not one antivirus program that will detect all problems/viruses. I just asked you to use Ewido because this is one program that might nail the Aurora infection.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. If you have Windows XP, the search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that 'Search system folders', 'Search hidden files and folders', and 'Search subfolders' are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Go to Start->Run and type in services.msc and hit OK. Then look for System Startup Service (SvcProc) and double click on it. Click on the Stop button and under Startup type, choose Disabled.

Go to Start->Run and type in cmd and hit OK. Then type in each of the following (hit Enter key after each line):

cd windows
nail.exe /FullRemove
exit

Go to Start->Run and type in regedit and hit OK. Go to File->Export and save the registry somewhere as a backup. While in the Registry Editor, navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ and delete aurora

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ and delete Bolger

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ and delete BolgerDll.BolgerDllObj

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ and delete trfdsk.amo

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ and delete trfdsk.iiittt

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ and delete trfdsk.momo

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ and delete trfdsk.ohb

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\ and delete {302A3240-4805-4a34-97D7-1645A0B08410}

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Interface\ and delete {BB0D5ADC-028D-4185-9288-722DDCE2C757}

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\TypeLib\ and delete {92DAF5C1-2135-4E0C-B7A0-259ABFCD3904}

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Monitors\ZepMon Driver and delete DrPMon.dll

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Print\Monitors\ZepMon Driver and delete DrPMon.dll

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Control\Print\Monitors\ZepMon Driver and delete DrPMon.dll

If any of the above registry keys are giving you problems deleting, right click on them and click on Permissions. Then click on the Advanced button. Make sure the first box (Inherit from parent...) is checked. Click OK and OK. Then try deleting the entry again. Once you're done, close the Registry Editor.

Make sure to close any open browsers. Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = \blank.htm
F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe
O1 - Hosts: 64.91.255.87 www.dcsresearch.com
O2 - BHO: BolgerObj Class - {302A3240-4805-4a34-97D7-1645A0B08410} - C:\WINDOWS\Bolger.dll (file missing)
O14 - IERESET.INF: START_PAGE_URL=http://www.ntlworld.com
O15 - Trusted Zone: http://V5.Windowsupdate.microsoft.com and https
O15 - Trusted Zone: http://Download.Windowsupdate.com
O23 - Service: System Startup Service (SvcProc) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe (file missing)

Delete the following Files/Folders (delete folders if no filename is specified) according to their directory (if none, just do a search for them) and delete them if they exist:

C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe
C:\WINDOWS\Bolger.dll
C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe

Reboot into Normal Mode run a new HijackThis scan. Save the log file and post it here.

OK see if this will fix the FindIt's problem. Copy autoexec.nt from the C:\WINDOWS\repair folder to C:\WINDOWS\system32 folder. Now try running FindIt's.

If that still won't work (still taking a long time), then I want you to take a look at your c:\windows\system32\ folder and see if you can find a bunch of ICO files dated around the same time.

done all that you told me to. I think it nail.exe may be a thing of the past. Pretty happy if it is. The free version of ewido activate sitself after 14 days, it just deactivates some features that youget when you pay. Seems to be pretty good so I'll keep that and get rid of Norton. Going to re try FindIt with your instructions now. Hijack log below

Many thanks.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

The Temp folders should be cleaned out periodically as installation programs and hijack programs leave a lot of junk there. Download CleanUp! http://cleanup.stevengould.org/ (Alternate Link if main link don't work - http://www.greyknigh...spy/Cleanup.exe ) and install it. Don't run it yet.

Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist:

XoftSpy - it’s rogueware (or known to be rogueware in the past) and we highly recommend that you uninstall it. Rogue/Suspect means that these products are of unknown, questionable, or dubious value as anti-spyware protection.

Go to Start->Run and type in regedit and hit OK. Go to File->Export and save the registry somewhere as a backup. While in the Registry Editor, navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ and delete aurora

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ and delete Bolger

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ and delete BolgerDll.BolgerDllObj

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ and delete trfdsk.amo

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ and delete trfdsk.iiittt

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ and delete trfdsk.momo

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ and delete trfdsk.ohb

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\ and delete {302A3240-4805-4a34-97D7-1645A0B08410}

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Interface\ and delete {BB0D5ADC-028D-4185-9288-722DDCE2C757}

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\TypeLib\ and delete {92DAF5C1-2135-4E0C-B7A0-259ABFCD3904}

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Monitors\ and delete ZepMon Driver

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Print\Monitors\ and delete ZepMon Driver

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Control\Print\Monitors\ and delete ZepMon Driver

If any of the above registry keys are giving you problems deleting, right click on them and click on Permissions. Then click on the Advanced button. Make sure the first box (Inherit from parent...) is checked. Click OK and OK. Then try deleting the entry again. Once you're done, close the Registry Editor.

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

None of the registry keys seem to be there. I found aurora and bolger but not where you said they'd be.They are in: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Search Assistant\ACMru\5604.
Should I delete them?

Delete them if you wish. They should be harmless in that path.

Continue and post back a new set of logs when ready. Do not restart or shutdown once you post the logs here.

I think we nailed it. :tazz:

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer and uncheck the same box to enable System Restore.

Make sure to get the latest updates for Windows and Internet Explorer at http://v5.windowsupd...t.aspx?ln=en-us.

Your log is clean.

To help prevent future spyware installations/infections, please read the Anti-Spyware Tutorial and use the tools provided.

Are there any problems now? If not, you should be set to go.

Superb. I can't thank you enough for your help. I've followed the tutorial and set everything up. One final question, you mentioned if I wanted to keep ewido I should uninstall Norton. Is that necessary as they seem to work ok together. Again, many many thanks.
