Good evening,

A few days ago I received a few warnings about trojan.vundo and 17pholmes572.exe on my computer. I was also getting some random pop-ups in IE. I found this site and followed the Start here thread with malwarebytes, superantispyware, and active scan and hijack this. Things seemed to work better after I ran the malwarebytes and super antispyware. I will post the logs to all of these.

I did have a couple of questions. For malwarebytes, the log says some files delete on reboot. Does this mean they delete automatically or I have to find them? I searched and could not locate the items in the registry.

With super antispyware should I remove (delete) the items in quarantine or just leave them in there?

Hopefully I followed all the necessary steps. If someone could look through these and let me know if my system is clean or if there is more work to be done I would appreciate it.

Hello esknights and Welcome to Geeks to Go!

Sorry for the delay.
We've been quite busy this week.

Since the state of your system is not the same as it was when you posted,

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.

Okay koko_crunch. Here is the next set of logs. Thanks for the assistance. Under Add/Remove programs, the My Way Search Assistant is listed, but when I try to remove it I get the following error:

WebCyberCoach 3.2 Dell is an interactive tutorial that came installed when you bought the system.

We'll use a different tool.

Please download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**
  • Please, never rename Combofix unless instructed.
  • Close any open browsers.
  • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

    -----------------------------------------------------------

    • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
    • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.

      -----------------------------------------------------------

    • Close any open browsers.
    • WARNING: Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet as soon as it starts
    • Please do not attempt to re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.
    • If there is no internet connection after running Combofix, then restart your computer to restore back your connection.

    -----------------------------------------------------------

  • Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a report for you.
  • Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review.
**Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall**

Hi koko,

Thanks for the help. I will not be able to do the combofix until this weekend. Sorry about that. Just wanted to give you the heads-up.

Hi koko_crunch

I performed the latest combofix and hijack. The logs are posted below. One other thing I noticed is that every time I shutdown my computer a box pops up about closing the application "ccSVcHst". Don't know if this is anything. Just wondering why it pops up every time at shutdown.

Can you still perform updates on Norton?

Just a few cleanups left.
How's your computer running?

Next,

Please download the OTMoveIt2 by OldTimer.
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Please double-click OTMoveIt2.exe to run it. (Vista users, please right click on OTMoveit2.exe and select "Run as an Administrator")
  • Copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\69D289382D.sys
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LiveUpdate Notice
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\Legacy_LiveUpdate Notice
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ntcdrdrv
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\\DellSupportCenter

  • Return to OTMoveIt2, right click in the "Paste List of Files/Folders to Move" window (under the light Yellow bar) and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • A log of files and folders moved will be created in the c:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles folder in the form of Date and Time (mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log). Please open this log in Notepad and post its contents in your next reply.
  • Close OTMoveIt2
If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.

Let's do an online scan to see of we missed any.

First,

Download UPHClean and save it to your desktop.

  • Double-click on UPHClean-Setup.msi to install.
  • Just click on Next then Close when installation completes.

Next,

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
This program is for XP and Windows 2000 onlyDouble-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browserClick Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browserClick Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu.

Then,

Please do an online scan with Kaspersky WebScanner

Temporarily disable your resident Antivirus software before proceeding.

  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  • Once the files have been downloaded, click on Scan

Hi koko_crunch,

I followed your directions and performed all of the steps. I can't post a Kaspersky Log because the report came up totally empty. I will post the latest hijack this log. Is it possible that my computer is just slow because it is old? For example, when I click on Firefox to open the browser it takes about 45-60 seconds to open. I have plenty of space on the computer and do not run any demanding programs.

Also, should I delete all of these programs you had me download? Thanks

Thanks.

That is certainly a possibility.
What I can do is remove some start-up programs you don't need and post some optimization tips.

Also, is this computer connected to another computer with Windows 95 installed?

If not,

Disbale NetBIOS Over TCP/IP on Windows XP.

1. Open the Network Connections folder.
2. Right click the local area network connection and click Properties.
3. Double click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
4. Click Advanced.
5. Click WINS.
6. Click the Disable NetBIOS Over TCP/IP button.

Let me know.

Hi koko_crunch. Thanks for the quick replies. Let me know what start up programs I can disable and I will. One other thing that is terribly slow is the Adobe Acrobat 6.1. If a menu or something online has to open as a pdf I would say it takes over 2 minutes to function and the computer is frozen during that time. Anything I can do about that?

Thanks again
