My computer is Windows XP - everytime I listen to music, play a game or a video whether it be a file found on my computer or from a website (ie. youtube etc.) my computer crashes and goes to a blue screen. I figured it might have to do with the memory because the video card seems to be fine (i have not made any changes) - I just recently had spyware, malware and viruses galore and thought I got rid of all of them but my computer now runs slower than ever... I looked up that I could free up memory by disabling programs I don't use under my System Configuration Utility but under that I found "C:\WINDOWS\system32\oevbatya.dll" and on google that is nowhere to be found. I know nothing about this, if I need it or not. I downloaded a trial version of Security Task Manager and it said theres a 90% rating which means its potentially dangerous and can manipulate other programs. I was just wondering if anyone knew anything about this because I'm honestly lost and I'd like to know if this is where my problem is stemming out from or not. I don't want to disable it if I need it, anyone know more about it? I'd appreciate help. Thanks for reading this!

Hi kera

welcome to geekstogo :)

it is most likely malware but i suspect there is more there, so lets get some logs down for me to analyse:

Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Close all other windows before proceeding.
  • Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt -- please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.

Hi Kera

before we start a question: how many antivirus programs do you have on your machine? i think i can see 3 - AVG, NOD32 and Norton?

and now to start cleaning your machine:

====STEP 1====
While TeaTimer is an excellent tool for the prevention of spyware, it can sometimes prevent HijackThis from fixing certain things.
Please disable TeaTimer for now until you are clean - and i will be giving the all clear at the end of all this. TeaTimer can be re-activated once your HijackThis log is clean.
  • Open Spybot Search & Destroy.
  • In the Mode menu click "Advanced mode" if not already selected.
  • Choose "Yes" at the Warning prompt.
  • Expand the "Tools" menu.
  • Click "Resident".
  • Uncheck the "Resident "TeaTimer" (Protection of overall system settings) active." box.
  • In the File menu click "Exit" to exit Spybot Search & Destroy.

====STEP 2====
if you have already downloaded combofix then could you delete the current version of combofix you have and then follow these instructions:

Please visit this web page for instructions for downloading and running ComboFix

http://www.bleepingc...to-use-combofix

This includes installing the Windows XP Recovery Console in case you have not installed it yet. For more information on the Windows XP Recovery Console read http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314058.

Once you install the Recovery Console, when you reboot your computer, you'll see the option for the Recovery Console now as well. Don't select Recovery Console as we don't need it. By default, your main OS is selected there. The screen stays for 2 seconds and then it proceeds to load Windows. That is normal.

Post the log from ComboFix when you've accomplished that, along with a new HijackThis log.

**Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall**

could you also let me know the answer to the above question.

Nod32 is out of date, not sure why its still on the computer. AVG I downloaded to scan the computer (free version on their website) to get rid of some viruses and Norton I don't even remember having, I believe it came with google toolbar or something? I don't remember even using it. I would have a better anti-virus but they're all so expensive, I can't afford it.

AVG free version is just fine :)

we will remove the remnants of the other programs later.

if you can follow the other instructions in the prior post, that will be great :)

does ComboFix install the windows recovery as well? Because im not sure where my disk for windows XP is and im not sure if I have it on the computer - sorry, I am a little confused. I went to start combofix and I got scared when I saw 1 out of 100 fail the disinfection.

I went to start combofix and I got scared when I saw 1 out of 100 fail the disinfection.

which is part of the reason we install combofix, though i have yet to have a problem, but there is always a first time.....

on bleepingcomputer link there is a part about a third of the way down the page titled If you use Windows XP and do not have the Windows CD which takes you through installing the Recovery Console, you will need to go to a microsoft page (link provided in those instructions) and download a file from microsoft and then you drag and drop it onto the combofix program.

[ NOTE TO ANDREW: It wouldn't let me download Hijackthis, it said I had never run it (but i did yesterday, right?) But it ran a clone version of it.. and it came up with this... ]

my mistake, i never got you to download hijackthis, there is a cloned version with DSS, we will download HJT now and clear some more infections.

====STEP 1====
Click here to download HJTInstall.exe
  • Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
  • Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
  • Click on Install.
  • It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
  • Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.
====STEP 2====
1. Please open Notepad
  • Click Start , then Run
  • Type notepad .exe in the Run Box.

2. Now copy/paste the entire content of the codebox below into the Notepad window:

File::
C:\WINDOWS\system32\zfaiqwr.dll

Registry::
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\winlogon\notify\ljJAqqrP]
[hkey_local_machine\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\sharedtaskscheduler]
"{b0fdc513-46b9-46fc-8e70-d575ee546dae}"=-

3. Save the above as CFScript.txt

4. Then drag the CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe as depicted in the animation below. This will start ComboFix again.

Posted Image

5. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), please post the following reports/logs into your next reply:
  • Combofix.txt
  • A new HijackThis log.

in this post we will remove your antivirus programs, except AVG, remove the remaining infections i can see, update your java and do a couple of scans to see where we now stand.

the scans will likely take 3 hours, quite possibly much longer. so just let them run.

====STEP 1====
Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

O9 - Extra button: Casino-on-Net - {3015DB92-158E-4b77-9020-85C8E311FBB5} - C:\PROGRA~1\CASINO~1\Casino.exe (file missing)

O22 - SharedTaskScheduler: frowardness - {b0fdc513-46b9-46fc-8e70-d575ee546dae} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\zfaiqwr.dll (file missing)

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Close HiJackThis.

====STEP 2====

====STEP 4====

Run it and reboot.
This should get rid of Norton.

  • A notification will appear that "Quarantine and Removal is Complete". Click "OK" and then click the "Finish" button to return to the main menu.

  • To retrieve the removal information after reboot, launch SUPERAntispyware again.
    • Click Preferences, then click the Statistics/Logs tab.

  • Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
  • It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
  • When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
  • Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
    • Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
      Archives

  • Click on My Computer under Scan.
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
  • You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As....
