cd drive not readable winxp is not reading the cd drive to rec

I can't figure it out , the cd-r writing wizard says insert cd. but the cd is in there and it's not reading it, one area I noticed the readable speed is o and device is not ready, another area says theres no cd in there. please help it's probably really simple but I've tried to find out for 3days!! Thank you

Have you recently installed any new CD burning software? If so, try and remove it to see if that helps. If not, I'd guess you need a new CD/RW drive. These drives have many moving parts and are made cheaply, they're not built for long life.
