I got the Orange Box yesterday, and I've been trying to play TF2, but as soon as I get into a game I get the following error:

Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Application Name: hl2.exe
Application Version: 0.0.0.0
Application Timestamp: 470c11ae
Fault Module Name: StackHash_0d90
Fault Module Version: 0.0.0.0
Fault Module Timestamp: 00000000
Exception Code: c0000005
Exception Offset: 00000000
OS Version: 6.0.6000.2.0.0.768.3
Locale ID: 1033
Additional Information 1: 0d90
Additional Information 2: be1aae2a3e91c765ebea7039ba38c5bf
Additional Information 3: f3ae
Additional Information 4: 940a74c2186f21cbad4e63dff4741027

I finally got rid of another error that'd been plaguing me, and then I get this one. As soon as I enter a game I click "Continue" to start playing, and then I get the above crash error. I updated all my drivers and DirectX, and still get this. I looked on Google, but the only thing that matched the Fault Module Name was a French forum that ended up being of no help.

I'm running on Vista Home Premium with adequate system settings. Please help?

Hi Derek45013

See if you are running any of the programs on this list:

List

Otherwise, you might have to install it again, with no app's running in
the background. I had to do that to get my HL2 run properly.

So... they expect me to disable my antivirus to play an online game? I've never liked Steam...

Hm... So I just looked into those programs even further, and the only one of those that I've got is AVG, but I have AVG 8, and it only specifies 7.5

Hi Derek45013

Yup, don't know what Steam is thinking about here either.......

Anyways, they say Steam don't like Kaspersky, but mine runs fine.

Just install it with no security app's running. Afterwards, add the necessary
permissions / trusted app's / zones etc. etc. in your AV, and it should work
fine.

Okay, so I tried reinstalling it, and I made sure that none of the listed programs were running... and I got the same exact error, except the "Exception Offset" was "3f800002"... any further ideas?

Hi Derek45013

Hmmm.

You could take a look at the trouble-shooting from
Valve (Steam), but I wouldn't count on it, knowing
Valve and how they deal with problems.
("Valve: Its not our program, its the others")

Valve Troubleshooting guide

Other than that, you'll have to search google. I got a lot of hits with these search-parameters:

"APPCRASH" + "HL2.EXE" + "TF2" (With the quotation marks!)

try disabling UAC (user account control) via the control panel. also make sure that steam has fully updated both the client and the game. this means you have to have a steam account and must sign in.
