Windows Vista automatic update ran and completed, and required a reboot. Shortly after rebooting, I was browsing the web and got a genuine-looking box that stated content on the site required an update to ActiveX. It looked 100% genuine. When I accepted the offer to update my McAffee Security software immediately reported it had trapped a Trojan virus. The faux ActiveX box appeared again, and when I clicked Cancel, a second box popped up advising me of some reason why I could not cancel. The two boxes would not go away, so I attempted to load Task Manager. I got the outline of Task Manager on my screen, but it would not complete loading. I performed a cold-reboot and ran a full scan with McAffee. It reported no issues. When I went to browse the web again I was instantly confronted with numerous unrequested web pages, each in a different browser window. In additon to that, I experienced interference between my keyboard (corded) and the computer. The interference occured in all applications. If I attempted to type a 5-letter word, I would typically get passthrough of only 3 or 4 of the characters into the application.

I stepped through all of the steps in the instructions here, and my system is now back to smooth operation. I do note however that as I load IE7 the status bar at the bottom quickly cycles through a link to AdYieldManager. My home page is My.Yahoo.Com with a Google toolbar.

Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.

• Close all other windows before proceeding.
• Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
• When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt -- please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.

Here is the MAIN.TXT file. DSS is only giving me that one text file. It is not providing an EXTRA.TXT file. I did run Deckards on the 21st and at that time it did give me both files. I tried three times this evening, each time erasing the DSS.EXE file and getting a new download. Any reason it's now only giving me one file?

Nothing apparent there. I would like to take a deeper look. But first do you know what is in this folder, did you install it ? C:\uijjmpsv. If you didn't could you explore the folder and let me know the names of one or two files

Download OTScanit to your Desktop and double-click on it to extract the files. It will create a folder named OTScanIt on your desktop.

• Close ALL OTHER PROGRAMS.
• Open the OTScanit folder and double-click on OTScanit.exe to start the program.
• Check the box that says Scan All User Accounts
• Check the Radio buttons for Files/Folders Created Within 90 Days and Files/Folders Modified Within 90 Days
• Under Additional Scans check the following:
  • Reg - BotCheck
  • Reg - Desktop Components
  • Reg - Disabled MS Config Items
  • File - Additional Folder Scans
  • File - Purity Scan
• Now click the Run Scan button on the toolbar.
• Let it run unhindered until it finishes.
• When the scan is complete Notepad will open with the report file loaded in it.
• Click the Format menu and make sure that Wordwrap is not checked. If it is then click on it to uncheck it.

Please attach the log in your next post.

To attach a file, do the following:

• Click Add Reply
• Under the reply panel is the Attachments Panel
• Browse for the attachment file you want to upload, then click the green Upload button

 OTScanIt_part_1.txt   343.87KB   126 downloadsI looked at C:\uijjmpsv. Explorer shows it as a file, not a folder, and shows it as 0 filesize created on 6/18/08, which was Wed night a week ago. I do not remember any event on a Wed. The problem started on a Saturday. I do not recognize the file name.

The OTScanIt txt file is too large to upload as a single file. Appears this site has a 500K limit and the file shows to be 774K in size. I split it into two files and uploaded the first. I used three rows of asterisks to identify the split, so the first file ends with the asterisks. How can I get the second part to you? It appears I will have to delete the first file from the upload area, but I fear if I do that it won't be there for you to retrieve. What do you suggest?

The file shows a good number of firewall policy settings, which is I believe based on web site blocks put in place by one of the protections installed since I went through the cleansing process prescribed here. For grins I cut out those firewall policy lines and did a save as with a different filename and the file still came out at 499KB.

• Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
• The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.

How is your system running now ? Any further problems ?

Running lightening fast and no more evident problems. I do notice that when my IE starts the status bar flashes through AdYieldManager. I have done some additonal research on it and it may be a standard component of Google Toolbar, and may be unrelated to the random and onerous web page hyperactivity and keyboard interrupts. I believe I may now be clean.
