Straight to the point! My husband has 'fixed' the computer *sigh* :)

He for some reason reinstalled the XP disk and deleting all system restore points prior to that date.

The UBS ports were disabled but I managed to get them up again.

I bought a iPod shuffle and put in the USB

The "New hardware found" come up and I can see the iPod in the device manager but..... It is not appearing on the My Computer window. So I can't even transfer my songs.

I then plug in my card reader and the same thing happens.

I am buying a new computer for him and laptop for me in a few months (because this moron I live with has screwed this one beyond repair plus it's over 6 years old) but I bought this iPod for my 35th birthday and I can't even use it. :)

edit - I have XP Professional and I think we have SP2 (we don't have SP3 - too scared right now to try)

Hi looselipslou,

You might change the drive name of the IPod.

this can be done in: Configuration Panel>>Administrative tools>>Disk management

select here the IPod drive if available and change the drive number.

I hope this helps you out.

If not check this link hxxp://support.apple.com/kb/TS1369?viewlocale=en_US

Regards,

Hello,

You might also have to update your Chipset drivers for the mother board. Use CPUz to get the make and model of the motherboard and from there just use Google to find the Manufacturer's home page to download the appropriate Chipset drivers. Almost all the current Chipset drivers also control the USB device updates as well.

Cheers,
Mak

Cheers for the tips. I also think that when "Action Man" did what he did, it would seem that the USB 2.0 driver isn't installed now (apparently)

I have a AMD Athlon XP 2500+

I guess that's what I should look at next.

I actually found the ipod site rather useless and I already tried the change the drive but alas, nothing.

The iTUnes was picking up the iPod but wasn't 'connecting'.

I am going to set "Action Man" alight if he touches the new computer.

All of the "bad downloads" are the motherboard chipset drivers. try and get those updated.
