Need help trying to run this dog of a game. I bought COD 4 at the store and installed it , i installed the 1.4 patch then the 1.5 patch. in story mode the game runs fine but when i try and play the multi player it gives me the following message. "It appears that call of duty 4 modern warfare did not quit properly last time. Do you want to run the game in safe mode? This is recommended for most people." Ofcourse when you click or choose to run it in safe mode nothing happends except the following message. "lw3mp.exe has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly, windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." I also bought the game through the steam network thinking their self updates would remedy the problem but keep getting the same error messages. i have also installed all the current updates and drivers on my os and my graphics card. Any ideas?? anyone ??

system is a velocity with vista home amd athlon x2, 3.00 ram, nvidia 8500 geforce

I have the same problem!
Call of Duty 4 used to work, now it doesnt!
The only way I can play is plugging in my headset.
But that is a pain... Does anyone else have solutions?

yeah, have tried running in safe mode and nothing. just get the following message. "a problem caused the program to stop working correctly, windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." nothing happens after that. so i've basically bought the game twice for nothing. activision doesnt even have direct links to any patches or fixes on their site which is pretty pathetic, and their support is lame. have had the game for over 60 days now and haven't been able to play.

Actually I found a solution for me, at least for Call of Duty 4 (Call of Duty 2 does not work for this method).
I have bluetooth...
So go to start > control panel > recording
Now if you have bluetooth, there would be something called "Bluetooth SCO Audio".
Enable that, then Call of Duty 4 would play. But this is the case if you have bluetooth on your computer.

Now another way:
It does not matter if it is a bluetooth microphone (it doesnt need sound unless you want to talk in CoD4).
You can (again) go to start > control panel > recording and just choose your microphone as a default device, but it must be enabled and working.

I am sorry this is a bad explanation... I can help you more if you have more problems.

But I DEFINITELY AGREE activision screwed up this problem BIG-TIME.
They need to fix this.
And they give terrible support.

Yeah this can be a problem with some peoples Computers...

I think installing all the latest patches fixes this problem as i dont seem to have get it anymore...

links to the patches:

Patch 1.6

Patch 1.7

You need to have Patch 1.6 installed before you can install 1.7

Thank you for the links, however, if i disable the bluetooth microphone (or any microphone), it has the same error.

I am really upset at Infinity Ward for STILL not fixing this problem yet. They keep making patches, but still; not working.

The only way this will work if you go to Control Panel > Sound > Recording
Then select a microphone.

The same thing happened to me all the times. Then I didn't know about this site. I solved it my way :) First problem was when I updated Nero 8.Next day the game didn't work.(multiplayer) Then I updated nero manually and it worked, somehow:) But I dont remember it now.... But now I had the same problem again.I have like 5 year old speakers and with the last reply hint I solved my problem aswell. I got a headset from last christmas and when i replaced it with the old speakers it worked!! Thanks for all the help! I hope Activision will work this problem out with the 1.8 patch.
