I have my Xbox 360 connected to my Windows XP laptop through an Ethernet cable, and my laptop has a wireless card for Internet use. I tried looking on Google, but nothing turned out to be helpful for connecting to Xbox Live.

Every time i try the "Xbox Live test" I usually fail at IP address, and when I do pass it, I lose my internet connection, and I fail at the DNS address.

What can I do? :)

Ive never setup my xbox like that. I have an ethernet cable from my router straight to my xbox. If you want to use your laptop as the router than you have to use Internet Connection Sharing (ICS).

Now if you have a router you have to make sure the correct ports are open, documented Here

Then you have to setup ICS, documented Here

Here is the xbox page for connecting using ICS, documented Here

Hope it helps.

The problem with the ICS connection is that my Xbox 360 is far away from my PC, but I have a laptop in
my room, so I want to figure out a way to connect through the the laptop without purchasing the $100
Wireless Networking Adapter.

Any other ideas?

Thanks for your time to help me.

My main goal is to connect to Xbox Live b4 summer ends so I can play w/ my friends.

By the way, my wireless router is a D-Link DI-514.
Does this help?

Also, when I go to Control Panel > Network Connections > Wireless Network Connection Properties
and change the IP Address to something else, my Internet connection is ALWAYS lost.

I feel helpless. :)

Please help me ! :)

Hello?!?!?!?
Can anybody help me???

Oh, I managed to figure out a way to get the IP Address "Confirmed" by changing it manually on the Xbox 360 console.

Now, I'm stuck at DNS !! :)

I even try it w/o the crossover, but it doesn't make a difference.
but i heard you should between two computers, so I kept it on.

Alright, my Xbox 360 is connected to my Windows XP SP2 laptop via Ethernet cable.

Then, my laptop is connected to my wireless router via wireless connection (with one of those wireless Internet cards).

So, I'm trying to use my laptop as a gateway to my router.

Here's a diagram to help explain:
"~" means wired.
"---" means wireless.

Xbox 360 ~ Laptop --- D-Link DI-514

Does this help any?

No, but I have in the past.

Whenever I do create an ICS w/ the laptop,

I ALWAYS lose my Internet connection.

So, I don't think ICS is the solution.
