Hey Folks...

I have issues with my internet at my college. I use an Ethernet connection to connect to the network and am assigned a static IP. Recently I have been experiencing episodes where I can access the internet for about 20 seconds or so but then time out. Repeatedly I refresh the connection and the internet works yet again for a brief period (10-20 seconds). These episodes of intermittent internet can last on end for hours and then magically resolved so that I have a fully working internet connection. Any reason you folks think why this happens? Is there any way I can effectively resolve this issue? I’m wondering if there is someone on the network who disrupts my connection or perhaps is there a router/gateway/switch that needs to be reset or even replaced on the network?

Thanks for all your help! :)

P.S. We use a DHCP server.

If this is happening at your College I suggest you take this issue to the System Administrators of the network.
The system administrators will know what to do and will appreciate it if you report trouble in the network.
If nobody reports problems, they don't know what's going on and can't fix it :)

I hope this helps.
Regards,
Olrik
