Hey all,

I recently built myself a new computer and installed Vista Home Premium x64 SP1. The specs are below. Now, based on the amount of RAM I have and the speed of the processor, I figure I should be able to run 2 or 3 relatively CPU heavy programs at once, but my computer hangs up with even one.

For example, when I open up My Computer, my mouse stops moving smoothly for a good 10 seconds and jumps across the screen once a second or so. I don't even want to tell you what iTunes does to it...

What could be causing this problem? I have 8 gigs of RAM and more than enough CPU power. Thanks for any and all help.

P.S. When I say "hang up" I mean hangs up to the point where a cursor stops blinking. It's that bad. Also, I've installed Norton 360. I'm not sure if that could be causing the lag, but I know that Norton tends to eat up systems...

Again, thanks in advance.

Windows Vista x64 SP1
Intel Core 2 Quad Processor 9450 (2.66 GHz)
Gigabyte X48-DQ6 Motherboard
8 GB (4 x 2GB) Mushkin XP2-8500 RAM (DDR2 1066)
XFX NVIDIA 9800 GTX Graphics Card
WD Caviar 500 GB HD (primary)

Also, I've installed Norton 360

This could very likely be a problem!

Disable Norton/Symantec... enable Vista's firewall...download Avira Antivirus:

And trouble shoot from there.

I just tired disabling Norton 360 completely (I went into task manager and ended all the symantec processes), but the problem persists. I guess it's not Norton...

Any other suggestions?

Are your drivers and the BIOS updated?
See what happens with only 4G Ram.

Norton 360 and NVIDIA are causing a lot of Vista users problems.

This is out of my 'realm', so I hope one of our GTG Tech Team picks up on this!

Hello,

Disabling Norton does not get rid of it. Norton still has services, and hidden services running. So it could still be your issue. The only way to truly know if Norton is not the problem is by running the Norton Removal Tool to get rid of it completely and see if the problem still persists.

Cheers,
Mak

If you have paid for version 360, save your key!
