Hi ghoude,

Welcome to Geeks to Go!
I am sage5, and I will be helping you with this problem.

Please download the following & save to your Desktop:
FixIEDef.exe by ShadowPuterDude
Note: FixIEDef now supports Non-English Language Systems
Deckard's System Scanner

Spy-Bot's TeaTimer can sometimes prevent HijackThis from fixing certain things.
Please disable TeaTimer for now. It can be re-activated once your HijackThis log is clean.
  • Open Spybot Search & Destroy.
  • In the Mode menu click "Advanced mode" if not already selected.
  • Choose "Yes" at the Warning prompt.
  • Expand the "Tools" menu.
  • Click "Resident".
  • Uncheck the "Resident "TeaTimer" (Protection of overall system settings) active." box.
  • In the File menu click "Exit" to exit Spybot Search & Destroy.

Run FixIEDef:
    • NOTE: You will need to temporarily disable any programs you have running that will block attempts to edit the registry. As FixIEDef calls REGEDIT to delete registry keys added by Zlob, Trojan.Downloader.Delf, AntiSpyPro, and IE Defender.
  • Double-click FixIEDef.exe:

    Posted Image
  • That will open the About FixIEDef screen. Click OK to continue:

    Posted Image
  • Next, press the Scan! button:

    Posted Image
  • FixIEDef needs to run as Administrator to perform correctly. This message simply confirms it was able to run with admin privileges. Click OK to continue:

    Posted Image
  • Wait for the scan to finish. It shouldn't take very long:

    Posted Image

    Posted Image

    • WARNING: FixIEDef will kill all copies of Internet Explorer and Explorer that are running, during removal of malicious files. The icons and Start Menu on your Desktop will not be visible while FixIEDef is removing malicious files. This is necessary to remove parts of the infection that would otherwise not be removed.
  • After the !!! All Finished !!! message is displayed, click Exit:

    Posted Image
  • Post the FixIEDef log file, located on the Desktop.

Note: process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool". It is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

    See: http://www.beyondlog...processutil.htm

Run Deckard's System Scanner:
  • Close all other windows before proceeding.
  • Double click on the dss.exe file on your Desktop and follow the prompts.
  • Scans will run, and 2 text files will open in Notepad.
  • Close both of the text files.
These files are C:\Deckard\System Scanner\main.txt & extra.txt.
I will need you to copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of
  • main.txt
  • extra.txt
  • FixIEDef.log from Desktop
in your next reply.

The text from these files may exceed the maximum post length for this forum, and may need to be sent over 2 or more posts. Please ensure all text is posted.

Also can you please clear up what you have loaded on that PC, as far as Security software is concerned.
There are signs of AVG, Symantec & McAfee, and it looks as if some modules of both Symantec & McAfee are still active.
You need to have just 1 anti-virus & just 1 firewall.

Cheers,

sage5

You need to make a decision as to which security software you intend to use.
There are currently 2 suites loaded (Symantec/Nortons & McAfee).
If one is outdated, or you no longer wish to continue with it, uninstall it, and update the other.
If you wish to lose both and get a new security setup, you will need a new firewall & anti-virus, See below:

I have listed a couple of free versions of both. Please download and install 1 Anti-virus and 1 Firewall.

Firewalls: Please install one only.
Comodo Firewall Pro or Sunbelt Personal Firewall

Anti-virus: Please install one only:
Avast! Free Edition or AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic

Anti-Virus Tutorials/Manuals:
Avast Tutorial
Avast Manual
Antivir Manual

Please allow the new Anti-virus to run a full System scan, and at the end of the process you should be able to save a scan log.
If the scan report window does not have a "Save as Report" button (or similar), please highlight the text in the window & copy & paste it to a new Notepad file.
Save it as C:\avscan.txt if you can.

If you go with new software, I need you to post me a fresh HijackThis log to confirm correct installation of the Anti-virus and Firewall programs.

Run HijackThis:
  • Select the Run a system scan and save a logfile option. The logfile opens in Notepad.
  • Start your Web Browser and navigate back to this thread.
  • Click the Add Reply button
  • Copy and Paste the text into the Reply window.
  • Also paste me the text from C:\avscan.txt

Cheers,

Hi ghoude,

My apologies, I should have been clearer with those instructions.
You should only ever have 1 anti-virus & 1 firewall loaded.
Because you still have the McAfee loaded, you now have 2 of each again.
I would opt to keep the aVast & Comodo & lose the McAfee suite, but the choice is yours.
Please remove the surplus software & post a new HijackThis log to confirm the setup.

Cheers,

sage5

Hi ghoude,

As it has been a while, please send me a fresh set of logs from Deckard's System Scanner

Re-run Deckard's System Scanner:
  • Go to Start > Run and type or paste "%userprofile%\desktop\dss.exe" /config
  • In the Modules window click the Check All button
  • Click the Scan! button
  • Scans will run, and 2 text files will open in Notepad.
  • Paste the text from both files into your next reply.

Did you manage to get a new version of the Extra.txt?
Should be in a numbered subfolder of the C:\Deckard\System Scanner folder.
It is a date numbering system, in the form of yyyy,mm,dd,hh,mm,ss.

There should have been another file in that folder called Extra.txt.
No problems, we can play on without it.

Create a Startup list:
  • Open HiJackThis
  • Click on the Open Misc Tools Section button.
  • Make sure that the 2 boxes next to the Generate Startuplist log button are ticked
  • Now click on the Generate Startuplist log button.
  • NotePad will open a new window.
  • Copy and paste the text from the log into your next post.

Create an Uninstall list:
  • Open HijackThis, click Open the Misc Tools section
  • Click Open Uninstall Manager
  • Click Save list.
This generates uninstall_list.txt in the same folder as HijackThis. I will need you to paste the text from both of these file, into your next Reply.

Cheers,

sage5

Hi ghoude,

Please read this carefully & ask me if you have any questions:

You still have 2 anti-virus applications on this PC.
They will be conflicting & causing performance issues.

You need to remove 1 of them.

Background information:
aVast is very good, but is an anti-virus only. If you decide to keep it, you will need to install a firewall as well.
The McAfee suite that you have has anti-virus, firewall etc, so if you choose to keep it, you will not need to install a firewall. --> (I think you should keep this one)

For the sake of simplicity, let's get rid of either aVast.

Go to Start > Control Panel > Add remove programs & uninstall one of the following:
avast! Antivirus.

Shut down & Reboot normally:

Run HijackThis again:
  • Select the Run a system scan and save a logfile button. The logfile will open in Notepad.
  • Start your Web browser and navigate back to this thread.
  • Click the Add Reply button
  • Copy and Paste the text into the Reply window.
Please include a note to tell me how your PC is running now.

Cheers,

sage5
