Hello, first time poster, long time reader... :tazz:

Well, I have performed all the steps at the beginning of this forum (Adaware, CWShredder, Spybot) but still same problem, pop ups with "Aurora" as the program title won't stop...I just finished running a HJT...it follows, your help is much appreciated...

I seem to have cleaned up most of Aurora (no more pop-ups, at least for the last couple days) but I can still see it in the registry editor. So I know it isn't totally gone, worrysome.

Hi Mullet,

I notice you have Ewido downloaded, if it's still within it's 14 day free trial, update it.

If it's outside the 14 day trial it doesn't matter that much.

Download The following program but do not use it yet.

Cleanup

Reboot into SAFE MODE by tapping the F8 key whilst PC restarts, select SAFE MODE.

Run Ewido and copy the report to post back in this thread.

Press Ctrl/Alt/Delete and in processes if the following is running end task it.

C:\WINNT\system32\fryhser.exe

Then run HJT and check the following entries

Hi mullet,

Both HJT and ewido show clean sheet apart from 1 entry in HJT.

Click Start > Run > and type in:

services.msc

Click OK.

In the services window find Service: FGLRYUTIL (FGLRYUtil).
Rightclick and choose "Properties". On the "General" tab under "Service Status" click the "Stop" button to stop the service. Beside "Startup Type" in the dropdown menu select "Disabled". Click Apply then OK. Exit the Services utility.

Then rescan with HJT and check the below.

O23 - Service: FGLRYUTIL (FGLRYUtil) - Unknown owner - C:\WINNT\system32\fryhser.exe (file missing)

Ensure no windows open and click fix checked.

Reboot ito safe mode, set up to show hidden files and use windows explorer to locate

C:\WINNT\system32\fryhser.exe

If found delete it (it should no longer be found)

Reboot normally rescan with HJT and post log back.

IF you want to manually remove all traces of Aurora from registry here is a link to detailed instructions. However the procedures you have already carried out disable it and render it safe.

O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA9.EXE <<<------ This is a known resource hog. All componants of office are still available from start/programs if you delete this one.

You know the drill if you want to delete this in HJT . scan check the entry, ensure no windows open , click fix checked and close HJT.

After That.

From your log, I see nothing in the ways of trojans, nor any evil entities attempting to possess your computer, except for Windows but it's too late for that one. :tazz:

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:

Detect and Remove Programs:

How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.

Prevention Programs:

Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.

Other necessary Programs:

AntiVirus Program<= An AntiVirus program is a must! Whether it is a free version like AVG or Anti-Vir, or a shareware version like Norton or Kapersky, this is a must have.
Firewall<= A firewall is definatley a must have. Two good free versions are Sygate and ZoneLabs.
More Secure Browser<= Internet Explorer is not the most secure and best browser. There are safer and better alternatives available. I recommend Firefox, however Opera and SlimBrowsers are good as well.
