I was on a site (all2c.tv) I knew I should have been careful with and I got a virus.
It has changed my settings settings, given me a screen saver (blue screen error message sceen saver... how funny). Unfortunatly I know next to nothing about spyware/virus removal :)

I ran all the items in the 'before you post hijack logs do this...'
AVG (which was installed and up-to-date all along didnt stop the virus from going on my computer. when I use AVG to scan it dosnt find any viruses but I do have an incredibly large amount of 'warnings'. so many that I cant delete them all because my computer crashes if i remove them all and I cant delete them a few at a time because I will be deleting for god knows how long (days).

thats about all i can tell you right off... here is my virus' from the scan and my hijack this longs

Hey hiloh2o,

Welcome to GeekstoGo! I'm Ltangelic and I'll be helping you fix your computer problem.

Take note that I'm still in training, and my posts will have to be checked by an expert. This may cause delays in between my responses, I ask for your patience. :)

I'm looking at your log now, and I'll post back with a fix when I'm ready. Thanks for your patience.

congrats on the geek U senior! :)

I also wanted to let you know that I am at work (and away from my home laptop) for the next 7 hours (not sure what G2G time is). As soon as I get home I will do anything you like me to do to the computer :)

Hey Christy,

Sorry for waiting so long, I needed an expert to look through this before posting, so it took a while. Thanks for congratulating me too. :)

PS. In the future, if you're wondering why I am taking so long to respond, feel free to give me a PM and I'll explain it to you.

Your log isn't showing big problems, we'll run some tools to see what we can find. :)

Please follow my instructions in the order they were given, and print out a copy of it as you may not be able to access the forums during the fix.

1) Update Java

  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 6.
  • Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Select your Platform and check the box that says: "I agree to the Java SE Runtime Environment 6 License Agreement.".
  • Click on Continue.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation (jre-6u6-windows-i586-p.exe) and save it to your desktop. Do NOT use the Sun Download Manager..
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java version.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on the download to install the newest version.
2) Download and run ATF cleaner

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
This program is for Windows 98/ME/2K/XP and VistaDouble-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browserClick Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browserClick Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu.

3) Remove Viewpoint Manager

Viewpoint Manager is not considered malware, but it is froistware because it is installed without your permission. It is recommended that you remove it. If you decide to do so, please go to Add or Remove Programs and remove the following (if present):

Viewpoint Manager
Viewpoint Media Player
Viewpoint Toolbar
Anything else with "Viewpoint" in it

Then please use Windows Explorer and delete the following folder:

C:\Program Files\Viewpoint

Reboot your computer.

4) Upload a suspicious file for analysis

We have a suspicious file that needs to be checked. Before going to the site below, please do the following:
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View Tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
  • Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.
  • Please go to Jotti's malware scan
  • Copy and paste the following file path into the "File to upload & scan" box on the top of the page:

    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\lphcgqwj0er41.exe
  • Click on the submit button
  • Please post the results in your next reply.

5) Remove an entry with HijackThis

Please re-open HijackThis and Do a System Scan only. Put a check next to the entries below.

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)

Now close all windows other than HijackThis, then click Fix Checked. Close HijackThis.

6) Run Deckard's System Scanner (DSS)

Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Close all other windows before proceeding.
  • Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt -- please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.

Next reply (please include):

Fresh HijackThis log
Jotti malware scan results
DSS scan log (main.txt and extra.txt)

You gave me alot of great advice that my sister did for me :) She works on computers but she lives very far away from me. She just did a remote desktop and fixed it for me.

I did not want to send you a PM because I know that real life happens and I have no way of knowing what is happening and Im sure that it is more important then helping a stranger. Im very thankful that you help as many people with thier computers as you do! I wish I knew about computers like you do. its an awsome skill to have :)

again thank you for your help and my computer problems have been resloved :)

Hey Christy,

No problem, I'm glad to be of help. :)

It may be better to show me the logs I've said in my previous post because there may be hidden infections on your computer. It is best to completely clean up the computer to prevent furthur infections. Could you post the logs on here for me to see? Thanks. :)
