unable to load sp2 and other things

hiya all, i have sorted out my old pc and need some help. basically im having some trouble downloading and uploading some things. ive decided to start from the begining and make sure that all the basics at least are up to date and have found that i dont even have service pack 2 installed. easy enough, but when i try to install it validates my copy of windows than comes up with an error msg saying that "the requested section was not present in the activation context" (whatever that should mean) the same also goes for trying to upload other programs (nokia pc suite) it starts the process but then says it has encountered some sort of error and cant continue. ive looked on microsoft help but can see no reason why i shouldnt be able to update at least sp2. if you could take a look that would be greatly appriciated?

incidently, the pc allows me to download things like the spyware checkers etc, just not this. ive seenreference to spyware or possibly even a virus but im hoping its just an issue with the instaling programs?
