Ok, I have a desk-top here that has ran beautifully for over a year without a hitch. Now it is freezing up randomly and also randomly shuts down. I've ran every scan I can think of without finding any malware, viruses, etc. I did, however, discover a new issue with the svchost.exe file attached to Microsoft Update. I changed that setting and stopped the excessive CPU usage. Still have these random stops and shut-downs, though... Is it possibly some worm, or a registry issue?

I ran 'HijackThis' out of frustration. Here is the log file...

I'll be here at the desk, restarting my computer every few minutes, throughout the day while looking for an answer.

Thanks Guys!

Added information:

I've done a little more digging and have discovered my never-before-seen "Event Viewer". I see that I am experiencing Service Control Manager Errors - in sets of three!

  • 1. The Upload Manager service failed to start due to the following error: The account specified for this service is different from the account specified for other services running in the same process.
  • 2. The Parallel port driver service failed to start due to the following error: The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.
  • 3. The vsapint service failed to start due to the following error: The system cannot find the file specified.

The only exception was this single error:

  • The server {25E8A7CA-5874-4F85-BC00-35210131C444} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.

I am WAY out of my element, guys! Just a broken-down disabled Navy Vet that wants is computer to work. :) Any ideas?
