Hi there,

Recently I've been experiencing frustrating redirecting issues when clicking on links in google. I've been chatting with one of the moderator's in the Spyware forum (Rorschach112) and have run through a series of malware scans and checks to no avail. My system appears to be clean but still I'm getting re-directed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Are you using some sort of alternative DNS service, such as OpenDNS?

Have you checked that parental and adult content filtering is disabled?

Try "ping" Google, and see what domain name you get from that.

To ping:

Goto Start, click Run,
In the Run-Box, type: CMD
Command-prompt will now open.
Type: Ping www.google.com
enter.

Hi There! Thanks for the fast response!

I'm not aware that I'm using an alternate DNS...

I pinged google and it returned with an IP of 74.125.19.104 (www.1.google.com). No idea what that means though!

Thats a Google.inc address, no fuss there.

I took a look on your thread with Rorschach, and there you mention the IP for the re-direct.
According to Web-sniffer.net, its a text-file / HTML.

I can try look it up for you if you want(?) I got Returnil on this machine (Virtual program), so no
harm will be done, if it contains something potential harmful.

Did you try see if parental control was enabled or disabled?

Ah ok, so I just gotta try and find this text file then?

I'm on FF3 and don't see any parental controls, but I can't imagine they'd be turned on, I am 21 after all!

Got a side-question: Is your machine receiving the cable signal through another machine or router?

Ok no probs.

The laptop's connected to a Thompson Speedtouch 330 modem which in turn is plugged into the phone line

Ok, theres nothing on that site. Its either a broken link or obsolete page.

Nope Yahoo works fine, it only occurs on Altavista and Google. Interesting though the re-direct url on altavista is for http://results.yahoo.com...a possible clue?

sorry for the dual post, but on altavista the redirect url there seems to be a XSS from av.rds.yahoo.com. I thought I was pretty secure against XSS which is why I'm slightly confused!

Hmmm.

Ok..Try this:

Goto start, click run, type: CMD
In the command prompt, type: IPconfig /FlushDNS (There is a space between *g* and the slash */*)
enter

This will flush the DNS resolver cache, getting rid of any bad entries. It may not solve it, but then its ruled out.

This is a slightly embarrassing admission..but my "u" key on my keyboard doesn't work, I normally get around this by copying and pasting a "u" into whatever I'm trying to type, but CMD won't let my copy and paste...hence I can't type the "flush" part of the command...

Hmm, a tough nut....

In Firefox, go to tools, select clear private data.
Place a checkmark in cookies so it clear those as well.
(Be sure to remember any passwords etc. etc. you have on auto, as those will be cleared as well)

Next, go to Google.com.

Don't click any links yet.

click on settings next to the search-box. Scroll a bit down, and see if you have filtering on.
Adjust if necessary.

Now, I don't know where you are located, but some country related re-directs occur from time to time.

When you said that the FlushDNS didn't work, any message?
