PC wont start

Hi,
My daughters PC will not switch on!
When the power button is pressed instead of getting the blue light with in the button. I get a red light that flashed acompanied by a pinking sound from teh swith.

Any ideas.
The PC is a desk top Compaq.

Defective power supply most likely or a dead board.

Thanks Neil,

The power supply appears to be ok the internal fans are running. Is there a process I canuse to check if it's the mother board?
