Over the last month my computer seems to have really hit the slow button. I can't see anything that jumps out at me in the hijackthis log, but wondering if a fresh set of eyes could take a look.
Done most of the clean-up's (temp files, internet temp, recycle bin) and done a scan disk and defrag. Also done the latest windows updates. Nothing really seems to help.
The worst seems to be bringing up new tabs or new IE windows. System usage hits 50% and holds for 30 sec to a min. Then the page slowly comes up. No system changes that I can think of have happend. I tried to do a system restore back a month, but since I did the SP3 windows updates, it will not restore the system past that date. Not sure yet if it is worth un-doing the SP3 updates and trying the system restore again or not.

Thanks for any tips!

Hi there,

Sorry about the very long wait!

Well I don't see any signs of malware in your log, so lets have a deeper look.

Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Close all other windows before proceeding.
  • Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When it has finished, DSS will open two Notepad files: main.txt and extra.txt
  • Use Save As to save both Notepad files to your Desktop and post them in your next reply.
Note: A copy of these files can be found in you root drive, usually C:\Deckard\System Scanner\

Regards,
RatHat

No worries about the speed... I fully understand that we all have a life outside this little screen.

Here are the files: Main.txt

Hi there,

Well I still don't see anything wrong there, but I do see some programss that need to be uninstalled. The P2P programs are a recipe for downloading malware, and should be uninstalled. Also the old versions of Java should go as they leave openings for exploits.

Please uninstall the following programs:

Azureus
eMule
LimeWire PRO 4.14.12
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 11
Java™ 6 Update 2
Java™ 6 Update 3
Java™ 6 Update 5
Java™ SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1

  • Go to Start then Settings, then Control Panel
  • Choose Add or Remove Programs
  • Remove all of the above

The complete DSS extra.txt did not post properly, so could you repost it.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browserClick Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browserClick Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu.

  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
    Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
    • Scan Options:
    Scan Archives
    Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan:Select My Computer
  • This will program will start and scan your system.
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
  • Once the scan is complete it will display the results if your system has been infected.
    • Now click on the Save Report As Text button:
  • Under Save as type, choose Text file (*.txt)
  • Save the file to your desktop as Kaspersky.txt
  • Copy and paste that information in your next post.

Thanks for the help.
I removed Limewire and all the Java (I didn't even notice that when it does an update it keeps the old one)
I do use Azureus and eMule, so I am keeping them, I am aware of the risks and I do run them as safe as possible.

Here is the DSSExtra, the others are on their way once they are done.

Brian,

It would be much better if you uninstalled Azureus and eMule, at least until we know you are clean. Malware can, and does, use P2P engines as a means of downloading additional malware, so it is always best to stay safe and get rid of this source of additional infection.
