Hello!

I am attempting to connect to a private lineage 2 server. I had it working earlier but some mistakes led to me re-installing my operating system. Now I cannot connect to the private server. I have downloaded the hosts file from the private server website (found here: http://www.l2refused...usedpatchV3.rar ). I first attempted to replace the host file in driver/etc. This did not work. I pasted back the original and attempted to modify it. This did not work as well. When I had the host file provided by the server, I was told to ping l2authd.lineage2.com. Here is what I got: ( http://i32.tinypic.com/hs9r7s.jpg) . Note: I opened the host file after pinging l2authd.lineage2.com. The IP 216.107.242.199 is the IP of the retail l2authd.lineage2.com.

I tried winsockxpfix. After nothing. I did the above things as well and nothing.

Additional info:

Running Windows XP Professional SP2.
PC is located inside a network that includes DNS servers.

Help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Piotr M.

you don't have the HOSTS file setup correctly cause it should ping 74.86.194.219 and not the default 216.107.242.199

What do you mean by "did not work"?

I copied over the one I downloaded from the first link with the original. I backedup the original. This didn't work. I then put back the original and attempted to modify it. Also didnt work.

Edit: If the file isn't setup correctly, how can I fix it?

Well, you didn't answer my question.

Anyway, try to;
stop* the DNS Client service
replace the HOSTS file (make sure that its read only)
start the DNS Clent service
now ping

*to stop and restart the DNS Client service;
  • go to Start>Run
  • write services.msc and press Enter
  • from the list, right click on the DNS Client and select Stop
  • after you've replaced the HOSTS file select Start

if you open the HOSTS file from this directory C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC (assuming that windows is installed on the C drive) can you find the following line?

74.86.194.219 L2authd.lineage2.com

I've just tried the previous method and it worked.

hm, its seems that everything is in order and it still doesn't work.

try to ping nprotect.lineage2.com

does it resolve to 206.127.148.69 or to 209.34.168.66 ?

BTW have you tried to restart the system?

My dad is the only one to have access to the servers in our home network. I'm not sure if they automatically update or ....

And what do you mean by a public DNS server?

Edit: Attempted to ping l2authd.lineage2.com. Still going to retail.
