Hi, I am currently using Avast 4.8, but I was thinking of switching over to Avira. I tried looking for comparsions, but most of what I found was back in 2006. So I was wondering if I could get some opinions on which is better, Avira or Avast?

I've tried Avast and I've tried AntiVir. I personally prefer AntiVir because of its high detection rates as well as it being a very light weight program (especially compared to Avast.) The only thing that might turn you off, or at least annoy you, is that every time AntiVir updates, you get a popup for Antivir Pro. Not a big deal to me but it seams to turn some people off from the program.

There's many topics on this (as well as other AV vs AV threads) that you might want to do a quick search for. Should give you some insight on which you might prefer :)

Does Avira have a shield that can scan incoming files?

All antiviruses actively scan your computer for infections.

Aviras' AntiVir is a great product and is the one I'd recommend you use, however if your not having any problems with Avast! - why change?
