downloader.zlob keeps recurring, won't go away [RESOLVED]

I had smitfrauds, so I followed the diy tutorial and it seems to be clear (I think). I have now noticed that I have a downloader.zlob and downloader.bho infection that keeps returning even after being removed multiple times.
I ran…..
Smitfrauds/smitrem, IEDefender, AVG, Super anti spyware, Panda scan, ATF, Malwarebytes, Ad-aware

Hi there sorry for the delay. First we will secure your system and then take a deeper look

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malicious sites can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 6 and save it to your desktop.
  • Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 6...allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Read the License Agreement and then check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement". The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save the file to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove Programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check (highlight) any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u6-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.


Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Close all other windows before proceeding.
  • Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt -- please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.

Thanks for the help.

Since my first post I have noticed that internet explorer doesn't work, but mozilla does and that is what I use. I don't know if this is a trojan or what.
Also I am curious if there is anyway to keep java up to date and not have so many versions at once?

Alas no, Sun does not remove the old versions when you update. Which leaves you wide open to exploits

This was in the warning section, so I would recommend uninstalling IE7 and then try a re-install

I don't see IE7 in my add remove programs, how do I uninstall it? I can reinstall but I don't know how to uninstall.

Last time either superantispyware or malwarebytes found the downloader.zlob infection with a week inbetween scans, but the most recent scan, a day after post there was nothing. I don't know if it is still there, or if there are any other infections.

Also last time I restarted my computer, a ccSvchost.exe warning box came up about having to close program. It showed up when windows was shutting down. (in front of the windows blue screen).

That file belongs to Symantec ?

IE7 uninstall will be under windows updates within add/remove (there is a tick box that says show updates)

You could delete the AVG vault and see if that cures the problem, but as I say I can see no sign on those logs

We will now do a deep search of your processes and files

Download avz4.zip from here
  • Unzip it to your desktop to a folder named avz4
  • Double click on AVZ.exe to run it.
  • Run an update by clicking the Auto Update button on the Right of the Log window: Posted Image
  • Click Start to begin the update
Note: If you recieve an error message, chose a different source, then click Start again


  • Start AVZ.
  • Choose from the menu "File" => "Standard scripts " and mark the "Healing/Quarantine and Advanced System Investigation" check box.
  • Click on the “Execute selected scripts”.
  • Automatic scanning, healing and system check will be executed.
  • A logfile (avz_sysinfo.htm) will be created and saved in the LOG folder in the AVZ directory as virusinfo_syscure.zip.
  • It is necessary to reboot your machine, because AVZ might disturb some program operations (like antiviruses and firewall) during the system scan.
  • All applications will work properly after the system restart.

When restarted

  • Start AVZ.
  • Choose from the menu "File" => "Standard scripts " and mark the “Advanced System Investigation" check box.
  • Click on the "Execute selected scripts".
  • A system check will be automatically performed, and the created logfile (avz_sysinfo.htm) will be saved in the LOG folder in the AVZ directory as virusinfo_syscheck.zip.

The choice is yours, but I would consider it when your subscription expires. As Norton needs a powerfull machine to counteract the drag on your resources..

That scan also showed nothing untoward..Are you experiencing any problems ?

Even if you do not notice any problems then allways clean it

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean :)

Download and run this small programme http://download.blee...r/OTCleanIt.exe and it will remove the tools we have used plus itself. You will need to remove AVZ manually

Now to get you off to a good start we will re-set your restore points so that all the bad stuff is gone for good. Then if you need to restore at some stage you will be clean. There are several ways to reset your your restore point but this is my method:

1. Select Start > All Programs > Accessories > System tools > System Restore.
2. On the dialogue box that appears select Create a Restore Point
3. Click NEXT
4. Enter a name e.g. Clean
5. Click CREATE

You now have a clean restore point, to get rid of the bad ones:

1. Select Start > All Programs > Accessories > System tools > Disk Cleanup.
2. In the Drop down box that appears select your main drive e.g. C
3. Click OK
4. The System will do some calculation and the display a dialogue box with TABS
5. Select the More Options Tab.
6. At the bottom will be a system restore box with a CLEANUP button click this
7. Accept the Warning and select OK again, the program will close and you are done
