Hi All,
Just wondering if someone could shed some light on this little prob.

AMD 2600+
2GB RAM
128MB graphics
500GB SATA HD
120GB IDE HD
8GB IDE HD

Windows XP SP2

2 USB ports at rear currently connected to printer and mouse
2 USB ports at front not connected because I always get an 'unrecognised' error. (Besides, it is too inconvenient to use the front because of the way I have set up my equipment).
Have used one of the floppy drive bays to install a card reader which also has 1 USB port (this port also works).

Now, I recently formatted the pc and did a complete new install.
Ever since though, whenever I connect either my Sandisk Cruzer USB drive or the Verbatim USB drive I have, if it doesn't ask for a driver, nothing happens. Usually a screen appears prompting me what I want to do...view files, play using... etc etc.
The drive is not even visible in explorer...irrespective of which of the working usb ports I connect to.

Other times it asks for a driver, and I allow it to search and install, when it finally finds it to and begins the install, half way through the transferring of files it fails and provides an error saying your device cannot be used.

I don't think it's a USB port issue because my mouse works as does my printer.
I don't think it's a drive issue as both USB drives work on other computers.

I am not too sure what it could be to be honest, so any help that rectifies this issue would be appreciated.

One last thing, the logitechG5 mouse I have works fine but the software that came with it cannot be installed for some reason.
For those who don't know, it's just s/w that allows you to configure the button settings for this device.
The mouse works as it is, but not to what I expect for gaming sessions.

Thank you in advance.

Hmmm...
So many reads yet no one seems to know.

I guess another reformat is not off the cards.

I'll give it a couple more days while I continue to back up important information.
Any assistance is appreciated.

Thanks for your help....in advance.

Hi BlackVinyl

A potential reason is that the USB cruzer drive it is trying to use a drive letter that is already in use by one of your other hard disks.

If you insert the drive into one of the USB ports and then do the following:

Right click on My Computer and select Manage
In the management console that appears, click Disk Management under the Storage Node. (This will list all drives that are attached to the PC)

Scroll down the list and see if has any unlabelled drives (chances are this is your USB Cruzer Drive)

If you right click on the drive, and select Change Drive Letters and Paths and allocate the drive a letter that is not already in use, this should then allow you to install the drivers needed for it and it will function again.

Let me know how you get on.

Cheers
