I can't connect with either IE or Firefox from the infected computer, but LiveUpdate has no problems. Other computers connect just fine. I ran Ad-aware SE, but defs were a month old and I couldn't connect to update. CWShredder failed to initialize. Spybot S&D worked fine. Norton AV worked fine. Couldn't connect to run Trend Housecall or Windows Update. System is performing better with the cleaning that I could do, but it's still slow, and I can't get rid of iSearch. Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

My name is Trevuren and I will be helping you with your log.

1. Go to Geeks to Go
. Click on My Controls at the top right hand corner of the window. (make sure you have signed in first)
. In the left hand column, click "View Topics"
. If you click on the title of your post, you will be taken there

2. Also, while at the My Controls page, check the box to the right of your post and then scroll down.
.Where it says "unsubscribe" click the pull-down menu and select "immediate email notification"

3. Your system is seriously infected with an [ISRVS] infection which is often difficult to remove.

4.
  • Run HijackThis. Click on "Config...", "Misc Tools", "Open process manager". Select the following files and click on "Kill process". Answer Yes to the "Are you sure..." question.
    • desktop.exe
    • edmond.exe
    • ffisearch.exe
  • Launch Notepad, and copy/paste the box below into a new text file. Save it as fixme.reg and save it on your Desktop.

    Locate fixme.reg on your Desktop and double-click on it.
    You will receive a prompt similar to: "Do you wish to merge the information into the registry?".
    Answer "Yes" and wait for a message to appear similar to "Merged Successfully".
    Restart your computer.
  • Launch Notepad, and copy/paste the box below into a new text file. Save it as Unreg.bat and save it on your Desktop.

    Locate Unreg.bat on your Desktop and double-click on it.
  • Delete the following files/folders (if present) in C:\Windows or C:\Windows\System32
    • delprot.ini
    • delprot.log
    • desktop.exe
    • isrvs (delete the entire folder)
  • Delete the following file: C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\Delprot.sys
  • Delete the following files/folder (if present) in C:\Documents and Settings\<your user name>\Desktop
    • anal exploits.url
    • big [bleep] school for 2.95.url
    • evidence eraser.lnk
    • popup blocker stops popups.lnk
    • spyware avenger.lnk
    • virus hunter security.lnk
    • your platinum visa.lnk
  • Restart your computer and post a new log from HijackThis.

Hi Trevuren! Thanks for your help!!!

1) I was able to "Kill Process" on desktop.exe. The other two weren't present.
2) I double-clicked on fixme.reg, and was prompted to add, not merge. I answered yes, and saw the "added successfully" message.
3) Restarted
4) I double-clicked on Unreg.bat and received errors:

LoadLibrary "C:\Windows\isrvs\msfiltis.dll" failed. The specified module could not be found".

"C:\Windows\isrvs\msdbhk.dll" was loaded, but DllUnregisterServer entry point was not found. Could not be registered.

"C:\Windows\isrvs\sysupd.dll" Access is denied.

I couldn't delete with either user account, so I used the Administrator account in Safe Mode to delete delprot.ini, delprot.log, desktop.exe, isrvs, and Delprot.sys. None of the files existed in any \Desktop. Upon restart, I don't see the isearch toolbar anymore!!! Wahoo!

I still can connect using either IE or Firefox. I ran WinsockXPFix, but it didn't help.

WAHOOO!!! A problem in another thread sounded nearly identical to my own. I followed the advice to uninstall Norton Internet Security 2004. Of course, Add/Remove Programs failed, so I followed the directions to use SymNRT.exe. Upon restart, I can connect again! Now, I'm off to get AVG Free! Thank you, Geeks to Go!

Hi weightdriven,

1. Make double sure to disable Spybot's Tea Timer for now, as it can interfere with the fixing of problems.

Open Spybot and and make sure you are in Advanced mode (check it in the 'Mode' menu). Go to the Tools section and click resident and then uncheck the box for Tea Timer.

Then, reboot

2. We also need to disable your Microsoft AntiSpyware Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes.

Open Microsoft AntiSpyware.
Click on Tools, Settings.
In the left pane, click on Real-time Protection.
Under Startup Options uncheck: Enable the Microsoft AntiSpyware Security Agents on startup (recommended).
Under Real-time spyware threat protection uncheck: Enable real-time spyware threat protection (recommended).
After you uncheck these, click on the Save button and close Microsoft AntiSpyware.
Right click on the Microsoft AntiSpyware icon on the taskbar and select Shutdown Microsoft AntiSpyware

Now let's do some work on your log:

First we need to make all files and folders VISIBLE:

Go to start>control panel>folder options>view (tab)
*choose to "show hidden files and folders,"
*uncheck the "hide protected operating system files" and the "hide extensions for know file types" boxes.
*Close the window with ok
*All hidden files will now be visible

Close all browser windows and RUN HijackThis.
. Click the SCAN button to produce a log.

Place a check mark beside each one of the following items:

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {BA52B914-B692-46c4-B683-905236F6F655} - (no file)
O20 - Winlogon Notify: URL - C:\WINDOWS\system32\gp8sl3l71.dll


Now with all the items selected, delete them by clicking the FIX checked button. Close the HijackThis window and Reboot Your System in Safe Mode

How to use the F8 method to Start Your Computer in Safe Mode

*Restart the computer.
*as soon as BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
*Use the arrow keys to select the Safe mode menu item
*press Enter.


Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files, and DELETE them (if they are present):

C:\WINDOWS\system32\gp8sl3l71.dll

Exit Explorer, and REBOOT BACK INTO NORMAL MODE

Finally, RUN Hijackthis again and produce a new HJT log. Post it in the forum so we can check how everytjhing looks now.

Download Killbox here: http://www.downloads...org/KillBox.exe and put it on your desktop

Open Killbox

Check the following boxes:

Standard File Kill
End Explorer Shell While Killing file


Copy & paste the full path of each of the files/folders below into the Killbox topmost box.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\nsvsvc
C:\WINDOWS\system32\d20mlcd11f0.dll


With the full path to the file name in the topmost textbox, Click the Red X ...and for the confirmation message that will appear, you will need to click Yes

Do this for each of the files listed. Some will not be deleted. Make sure you keep a list of them.

When you are through the list, use killbox to delete the files you were not able to delete as follows:

Open Killbox

Check the following boxes:

Delete on Reboot

With the full path to the file name in the topmost textbox. Click the Red X ...and for the confirmation message that will appear, you will need to click Yes

A second message will ask to Reboot now? you will need to click No (since you are not finished adding all related files in yet)

Click yes on the last file.

Note: Killbox will let you know if the file does not exist.

After the reboot scan with hijackthis and fix the following if they are still listed:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Nsv] C:\WINDOWS\system32\nsvsvc\nsvsvc.exe
O20 - Winlogon Notify: WindowsUpdate - C:\WINDOWS\system32\d20mlcd11f0.dll


Reboot and Post a new hijackthis log

HI weightdriven,

Everything looks clean except the 020 line in HJT. This has been posing a huge problem for all of us lately. Apparently, whatever is in there, morphs as soon as you delete it.

So we will try and kill whatever is still there:

1. Download About:Buster from here. Once it is downloaded extract it to c:\aboutbuster and check for updates.

2. Now double-click on aboutbuster.exe. When the tool is open press the OK button, then the Start button, then the OK button, and then finally the Yes button. It will start scanning your computer for files. If it asks if you would like to do a second pass, allow it to do so. Post the log file in your next reply.

3. In addition to the About:Buster log, please submit a fresh HJT log.

I need to disable your Microsoft AntiSpyware Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes.

Open Microsoft AntiSpyware.
Click on Tools, Settings.
In the left pane, click on Real-time Protection.
Under Startup Options uncheck: Enable the Microsoft AntiSpyware Security Agents on startup (recommended).
Under Real-time spyware threat protection uncheck: Enable real-time spyware threat protection (recommended).
After you uncheck these, click on the Save button and close Microsoft AntiSpyware.
Right click on the Microsoft AntiSpyware icon on the taskbar and select Shutdown Microsoft AntiSpyware

Now let's do some work on your log:

First we need to make all files and folders VISIBLE:

Go to start>control panel>folder options>view (tab)
*choose to "show hidden files and folders,"
*uncheck the "hide protected operating system files" and the "hide extensions for know file types" boxes.
*Close the window with ok
*All hidden files will now be visible

Close all browser windows and RUN HijackThis.
. Click the SCAN button to produce a log.

Place a check mark beside the following item:

O20 - Winlogon Notify: ThemeManager - C:\WINDOWS\system32\mv42l9ho1.dll


Now with all the items selected, delete them by clicking the FIX checked button. Close the HijackThis window and Reboot Your System in Safe Mode

How to use the F8 method to Start Your Computer in Safe Mode

*Restart the computer.
*as soon as BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
*Use the arrow keys to select the Safe mode menu item
*press Enter.


Using Windows Explorer, locate the following file and DELETE it (if it is present):

C:\WINDOWS\system32\mv42l9ho1.dll

Exit Explorer, and REBOOT BACK INTO NORMAL MODE

Finally, RUN Hijackthis again and produce a new HJT log. Post it in the forum so we can check how everytjhing looks now.

Hi Trevuren,

Something strange...I reran CWShredder and it found/removed VX2.Look2Me. I'm prompted to reboot. It took nearly 15 minutes for Windows to shut down, then it restarted, got to the login screen, then restarted again. I was able to reproduce this.

Here's another HJT log. 020 has changed again.
