The steps that I am about to suggest involve modifying the registry. Modfying the registry can be dangerous so we will make a backup of the registry first.
Modification of the registry can be EXTREMELY dangerous if you do not know exactly what you are doing so follow the steps that are listed below EXACTLY. if you cannot perform some of these steps or if you have ANY questions please ask BEFORE proceeding.

Backing Up Your Registry
  • Go Here and download ERUNT
(ERUNT (Emergency Recovery Utility NT) is a free program that allows you to keep a complete backup of your registry and restore it when needed.)
  • Install ERUNT by following the prompts
(use the default install settings but say no to the portion that asks you to add ERUNT to the start-up folder, if you like you can enable this option later)
  • Start ERUNT
(either by double clicking on the desktop icon or choosing to start the program at the end of the setup)
  • Choose a location for the backup
(the default location is C:\WINDOWS\ERDNT which is acceptable).
  • Make sure that at least the first two check boxes are ticked
  • Press OK
  • Press YES to create the folder.

For detailed instruction on how to back-up registry via ERUNT, please visit HERE

Please copy and paste the following into a Notepad

Great!.. and a little bit more.. :)

Please go to Start >> Run and type or copy/paste the following in the run box: "%userprofile%\desktop\dss.exe" /daft . Then press Enter
  • Click on the Scan button.
  • Select everything it is displaying there
  • Click the Fix button.
  • Then rescan with DAFT again - it should say now that "All associations are OK"
  • Close DAFT if you receive that message. This means that it is fixed now.

I also noticed you use AVG7 as your antivirus.. AVG7 will be no longer supported by Grisoft beginning this 31st August 2008.. It has been replaced by AVG8..
More information here

Please uninstall your AVG7 and replace it with AVG8 now.. After that, please post a fresh Deckard System Scanner log for my final review..

You can use CPU-Z for that.. Link below:

http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php

Good news, your log looks clean to my eyes...

Time for some housekeeping
  • Click START then RUN
  • Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK
Please note that the space between x and / is needed

Please Install/Update Sun Java

Updating Java:
  • Go to Start --> Control Panel --> Add or Remove Programs.
  • Search in the list for all previous installed versions of Java. (J2SE Runtime Environment.... )
  • It should have next icon next to it: Posted Image
  • Select it and click Remove. This will uninstall the previous (outdated) version of Java.
  • Then Download and install the newest version from here: Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 7

I noticed you already have..

1. AVG8 as your antivirus
2. Malwarebytes' as antispyware

However, I haven't seen any third-party firewall in your logs.. Do you have any? If you don't, please install ONLY ONE of these free and excellent firewall below:
After you install the third party firewall, please disable your Windows firewall. Please go to My Computer >> Control Panel >> Windows Firewall and choose Off (not recommended) option. Then please click Apply and Ok.

And now, to help protect your computer in the future I would like to recommend you these following free programs. Please do remember to use only ONE "Real-Time Protection" software for EACH Antivirus, AntiSpyware and Firewall.
  • SpywareBlaster 4.0 to help prevent spyware from installing in the first place.
  • SpywareGuard to catch and block spyware before it can execute.
  • IESpy-Ad to block access to malicious websites so you cannot be redirected to them from an infected site or email.

Lastly, to keep your operating system up to date please visit the link below monthly

To learn more about how to protect yourself while on the internet read this excellent article by Tony Klein: So how did I get infected in the first place?

Please also read an excellent article by miekiemoes :Help! My computer is slow!

And another excellent article by CastleCops Malware Prevention: Prevent Re-infection

Please reply to this thread once more and tell us about the computer behaviour before we can close this thread :)

Have a safe and happy computing day!

Ouch.. when does it happen? You should mentioned about it earlier!..

Have you do the Combofix /u things? If not, don't do it yet...

Can you recover it via this software below?

Hey,

It actually happened after the combofix /u step, for some reason, all my desktop objects is under a link by the deckard system..i dont know if that has anything to do with it, but i am at work, and i ran the recuva software before i left for work.

Is there any alternatives if that doesn't work?

Thanks for your help as always.

Hello, can you elaborate on this.

all my desktop objects is under a link by the deckard system

Do you mean to say your Desktop objects are in DSS's folder? Did you get hit by the "Virus Alert!" infection before? Which moves all Desktop links to the "%appdata%\TmpRecentIcons" folder ?

I didnt get hit by a virus alert infection before. What happen was after all the stuff are gone, i realize when i try to download stuff, it wasn't going to c:/documents/.../desktop and save the file, it would go through a long directory such as c:/deckard systems/some numbers here/backup/documents/.../desktop. I don't know if that make any sense, but thats what is happening. i ran through the recuva software, it didn't find anything except for some of the files that came prebuilt with windows.

Thanks again

Hello, can you go to c:/deckard systems/some numbers here/backup/documents/.../desktop folder and tell me what you can see inside?
