I'm having trouble installing software from large installer files(>100 MB in size) .This also happens when I extract similar files.I get a corrupt installer or archive message. These installers work fine on my friends' PCs.I have also connected a friend's DVD writer to my system to ruleout any problems with my writer. It gives the same problem on my system.
I have clean formatted my system and installed XP twice.
Please help me find out if it is an IDE problem...

If you suspect a problem with the cable, change it. Ask a shop nicely and you may get one for nothing.

Run a memory check on it. Google Memtest.
