the following error has started appearing in event viewer: no other obvious sign of a problem, everything working fine:

The Upload Manager service failed to start due to the following error:
The account specified for this service is different from the account specified for other services running in the same process.

Tried an internet search but nothing very useful

Thanks

That's what is odd - I don't upload any material. I use the web a lot an download stuff but I don't have a website or even put pictures on facebook etc. In fact I'm not aware of having any problems - computer all working fine, can do everything I need. What is upload manager - does it do what it sounds like - manages uploads? Only other thing is I recently installed bluetooth to communicate with my mobile phone - that all works fine now after a few problems. - could that use upload manager?
I could ignore the message but I've found that event viewer often flags up things that can become a problem later.
Regards

has your computer done any updates from windows update site
its possible that windows did not upload any updates
try this and check windows update log

from start

Start/run/ %windir%\WindowsUpdate.log /click ok

look for any updates on or around july 8
see if they failed or succeeded

and check any other programs that update automatically
see they are up to date

Thanks for that suggestion lot of activity in the windows update log but nothing that looked like a failure although a bit hard to tell
The upload manager failure message this morning (early!!) was timed at 6:25:18
The portion of the log for that time was:
2008-07-11 06:25:17:921 1172 948 Misc =========== Logging initialized (build: 7.0.6000.381, tz: +0100) ===========
2008-07-11 06:25:17:953 1172 948 Misc = Process: C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe
2008-07-11 06:25:17:953 1172 948 Misc = Module: C:\WINDOWS\system32\wuaueng.dll
2008-07-11 06:25:17:921 1172 948 Service *************
2008-07-11 06:25:17:953 1172 948 Service ** START ** Service: Service startup
2008-07-11 06:25:17:953 1172 948 Service *********
2008-07-11 06:25:18:046 1172 948 Agent * WU client version 7.0.6000.381
2008-07-11 06:25:18:046 1172 948 Agent * Base directory: C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution
2008-07-11 06:25:18:046 1172 948 Agent * Access type: No proxy
2008-07-11 06:25:18:062 1172 948 Agent * Network state: Connected
2008-07-11 06:26:04:390 1172 948 Agent *********** Agent: Initializing Windows Update Agent

I don't think that suggests a problem but it is hard to tell

Two other regular updating programs - Anti virus and and anti spyware both updated successfully

When I looked at "upload manager" inServices and application in computer management it showed service status as "stopped"
Trying to start it generated Error 1079 and the message "account specified for this service is different from account specified for other services using the same process"
It is logged on for "this account" (rather than "local system account"
There is a password in there but shows up in dots
In dependencies it says there are no services dependent on this service

That's as far as I've got
Many thanks
