Our whole life is on our computer. I have posted a hijack this log file, but I am so worried....will all our pictures be lost?

I am reading so many different opinions online.

Some say this thing is really bad and our computer is pretty much useless. Others say it's no big deal. I am so worried...literally worried sick. What do you think can our system and pictures be saved?

Hi there,

Welcome to GeeksToGo. My name is RatHat, and I will help you get through the process of cleaning the malware from your computer. Now the first thing I notice, is that you ran HijackThis from Safe Mode with Networking so I am assuming that this means that you cannot start Windows normally?

OK firstly, I need you to follow my instructions in the order that they are given. If however, you cannot carry out one of them, please continue on with the next and let me know what you were unsuccessful with.

I would like to make sure that you can view hidden files and folders:
  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading SELECT Show hidden files and folders.
  • UNCHECK the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  • UNCHECK the Hide extensions for known file types option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Please download Resolve for W32/Jeefo and save it to your Desktop:
  • Double click jeefogui.com to run the program
  • Click the Accept button to continue past the Terms and Conditions
  • Don't start the scan yet, instead click the Options button
  • Put a tick in the Scan all files tickbox, then click OK
  • Now click the Start Scan button to begin scanning.
  • On completion exit the program, and go to the next step below
Note that this program will have created a log in your root drive, usually C:\Resolve.log
Please post the contents of that log in your next reply.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Please download DrWeb-CureIt & save it to your desktop.

While still in "Safe Mode with Networking"; Scan with DrWeb-CureIt as follows:
  • Double-click on drweb-cureit.exe to start the program. An "Express Scan of your PC" notice will appear.
  • Under "Start the Express Scan Now", Click "OK" to start. This is a short scan that will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the Yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it.
  • Once the short scan has finished, Click Options > Change settings
  • Choose the "Scan tab" and UNcheck "Heuristic analysis"
  • Back at the main window, click "Select drives" (a red dot will show which drives have been chosen)
  • Then click the "Start/Stop Scanning" button (green arrow on the right) and the scan will start.
  • When done, a message will be displayed at the bottom advising if any viruses were found.
  • Click "Yes to all" if it asks if you want to cure/move the file.
  • When the scan has finished, look if you can see the icon next to the files found. If so, click it, then click the next icon right below and select "Move incurable".
    (This will move it to the C:\Documents and Settings\userprofile\DoctorWeb\Quarantine folder if it can't be cured)
  • Next, in the Dr.Web CureIt menu on top, click file and choose save report list.
  • Save the DrWeb.csv report to your desktop.
  • Exit Dr.Web Cureit when done.

  • Important! Reboot your computer because it could be possible that files in use will be moved/deleted during reboot.
  • After reboot, post the contents of the log from Dr.Web in your next reply. (You can use Notepad to open the DrWeb.cvs report)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Close all other windows before proceeding.
  • Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When it has finished, DSS will open two Notepad files: main.txt and extra.txt
  • Use Save As to save both Notepad files to your Desktop and post them in your next reply.
Note: A copy of these files can be found in you root drive, usually C:\Deckard\System Scanner\
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

So in your next reply, please include the following logs:
  • The contents of the Resolve log
  • The contents of DrWeb.cvs report
  • The contents of DSS main.txt
  • The contents of DSS extra.txt
And also let me know how your computer is behaving, and if you are able to boot into normal Windows.

Note that you may need to make two or three posts to ensure all the logs are complete.

Regards,
RatHat
