Windows media player 11 crashes

very randomly with no apparent pattern windows media player will crash and it says "a problem stopped the program from working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available" and usually when this happens I will end other processes (except for explorer.exe and all the system/local/network processes) and it will work after that.
