I've had this problem before and i have found no actual solution.

Booting up once, XP suddenly restarts itself. Asking me if I should boot in safe mode, Last Good Config, or normally.

Normally: The screen is stuck like that, I lose response on the keyboard. (i.e I can't turn off numlock)
Last Good Config: Black screen nothing more nothing less.
Safe Mode: The thing freezes on Mup.sys

Using the Installation CD praying that it might have some miraculous repair function of some sort freezes at Loading Windows

Running on: (if it even matters)
AMD Sempron 2800+ 2.8Ghz CPU
nForce3-A Motherboard
ATi Radeon 9250 128mb
1.5 Gbs of RAM

It's an inanimate object.
It doesn't have feelings.

What maintenance programs have you been running.
Antivirus program and others?
Do you use p2p programs such as Limewire.

PC's require occasional maintenance.
You need a plan.

I have AVG Free 8 and Eusing Registry Cleaner (or something like that). I have limewire but I haven't opened it for I don't know how long.

By maintenance, I scan my PC every Saturday and try to remove any dust that gets in side, anything else no.

If its worth mentioning, I have a SLAX live cd, which I use to get my files out incase windows is unusable for some reason, I recall it displaying a message along the lines of "Processor not listed in the BIOS" even though the I haven't changed the processor or anything hardware related.

"Processor not listed in the BIOS"

yeah, that would be a problem
does it do it every time now?

get ATF-Cleaner for once a week cleaning

http://www.geekstogo...amp;showfile=21

if you get it going again

You may need a new processor.
But at the price of computers these days a new computer is a consideration.

Check tigerdirect.com for pricing on both imo.

Would it be possible that something is just loose inside? Because this has happened to me before and has resolved itself over time (usuallly 2 days) and I am not in the financial position to buy a completely new pc.

EDIT: It's working now, (yay) doing a virus scan and some other stuff. Thank you for the help and If this thing dies on me again, I'll consider a budget system.
