Any reason why you have two Antivirus programs there? I see you have Norton 360 and Avast and that's a big issue. Norton usually won't play well with others and from the looks of it you were trying to remove it but there are still remnants left behind. Try using the Norton Removal Tool here to see if you can get rid of it.

Run a new HijackThis scan and post the log here.

Is there any improvement? If it's still slow, we can try disabling your startup programs there as they are using unnecessary resources. Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following if they still exist and hit 'Fix Checked' after you checked the last one:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [StxTrayMenu] C:\Program Files\Seagate\SystemTray\FreeAgentLauncher.exe C:\Program Files\Seagate\SystemTray\StxMenuMgr.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SSBkgdUpdate] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Scansoft Shared\SSBkgdUpdate\SSBkgdupdate.exe" -Embedding -boot
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [OpwareSE4] "C:\Program Files\ScanSoft\OmniPageSE4.0\OpwareSE4.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HP Software Update] C:\Program Files\HP\HP Software Update\HPWuSchd2.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Adobe Photo Downloader] "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Album Starter Edition\3.2\Apps\apdproxy.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Adobe Reader Speed Launcher] "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 8.0\Reader\Reader_sl.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTTask.exe" -atboottime
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [zzz_ImInstaller_IncrediMail] "C:\Users\Peggy\AppData\Local\Temp\ImInstaller\IncrediMail\incredimail_install.exe" -startup -product IncrediMail
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [HPADVISOR] C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Advisor\HPAdvisor.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [IncrediMail] C:\Program Files\IncrediMail\bin\IncMail.exe /c
O4 - Global Startup: HP Connections.lnk = C:\Program Files\HP Connections\6811507\Program\HP Connections.exe

Restart the computer. Any better?

Yes it has sped up some. But I've tried several times to disable the startup programs in your list, but after I check them and tell HijackThis to fix them, then do a new scan, they are still there. Then after a reboot, they are still there. Do I maybe have to stop those applications first for it to work? Here's my latest HJT log.

Also, I noticed my C: drive properties shows more space used than I can account for. It says 47 GB used (out of 226 GB total). But the total size of all the folders I can see under C: drive is about 18 GB. Could that be something malicious tying up my disk space?

Go to Start->Run and type in msconfig and hit OK. Then go to the Startup tab and uncheck all those entries I listed earlier (the names for them in msconfig are in the brackets []).

Could be some hidden folders unaccounted for and your page file since it's in the root c: drive. You can use a program like SpaceMonger to see what folders are taking up a lot of space.

I don't think this is a malware issue. If there are still any other problems with performance, you might want to post in the Windows board.
