Hi Kahdah

here is the latest DSS scan as per your request AFTER I removed both Adobe and Java - I have re-intalled the latest version of Java

it appears to be running better to be sure .. it is just the ORIGINAL browser page that continues to take forever to open .. once that is open I can use that browser page to take me to other sites - its just the original LAUNCHING of the internet which is incredibly slow .. as for my SPyware software - I have NONE .. we were using something my wife had downloaded called Priority One under the Microsoft LIVE umbrella but I have completely removed that

Thanks again Kahdah

please let me know if you see anything in this latest scan

Please open up Notepad and copy all of the items in the code box below.
Change the "Save As Type" to "All Files". Save it as fixthis.reg on your Desktop.
REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\shared tools\msconfig\startupreg\MyWebSearch Email Plugin]

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\mountpoints2\D]
Now double-click fixthis.reg.
A window will come up asking if you want to let it merge with the registry.
Click yes.
==================
Let's try this Open Internet Explorer then go to the tools menu at the top left hand side or the top right hand side.
Click on Internet options.
Then click on Advanced.
Then there will be an option to reset at the bottom.
Click it and yes at the prompt.

This will reset internet Explorer to it's default state.
Restart your computer and then try the browser again to see if it is working correctly or not.

Hi Kahdah

I has some wierd problems responding to your latest post that you had sent me .. about changing some files in my registry

I have done that - with MUCH greater success - the computer is finally running much faster now THANK YOU SO MUCH for your help ...
Yesterday (when I had trouble responding to your post from the day earlier) .. I went ahead and downloaded the GOOGLE search toolbar (which I quite actually liked before I ran into all these problems) and wow - did it EVER slow the internet browser down again - the performance was similar to the way the computer was running prior to all this help you had given me to clean it (the computer) up. I immediately (as in within 5 minutes) removed it back out of the computer and then I got the speed back. My question to you is .. can one simple addin like the Google search toolbar slow my browser performance THAT much ????

should I copy paste one final scan for you to look over my system in case I have re-installed another malware ?

Thanks Kahdah for all you help ... - I dont think the computer is running at 100% as yet - bet sertainly at about 80%+ and that is a LOT better than what I began with

Please re-open Hijackthis and click on "Do a system scan only"
Then place a check mark next to these entries below:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch =

Now click on Fix Checked and then close Hijackthis.
=====================================================
Please submit the following file to one of these online file scanners.
(All you have to do is copy and paste it in)

C:\Jts\WiseUpdt.exe

Jotti File Scan
VirusTotal File Scan

This will produce a report after the scan is complete, please copy and paste those results in your next post.

You can fix these entries with Hijackthis as well:
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: Google Toolbar Notifier BHO - {AF69DE43-7D58-4638-B6FA-CE66B5AD205D} - C:\Program Files\Google\GoogleToolbarNotifier\2.1.615.5858\swg.dll (file missing)

Then close Hijackthis.
================
I will need you to download ONE of these anti-virus programs and install it.
These are free.
AVG free 8.0
Note this is free antispyware protection and Antivirus protection.
or
Antivir
or
Avast
as long as you only install one.
======================
Cleanup::
  • Make sure you have an Internet Connection.
  • Double-click OTMoveIt2.exe to run it. (Vista users, please right click on OTMoveit2.exe and select "Run as an Administrator")
  • Click on the CleanUp! button
  • A list of tool components used in the Cleanup of malware will be downloaded.
  • If your Firewall or Real Time protection attempts to block OtMoveit2 to reach the Internet, please allow the application to do so.
  • Click Yes to begin the Cleanup process and remove these components, including this application.
  • You will be asked to reboot the machine to finish the Cleanup process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.
=============================
Delete\uninstall anything else that we have used.

System Restore
Then I will need you to reset your System Restore points.
The link below shows how to create a clean restore point.
How to Turn On and Turn Off System Restore in Windows XP
http://support.micro...kb/310405/en-us
=====================================
After that your log is clean. :)

The following is a list of tools and utilities that I like to suggest to people.
You do not have to have all or any of them they are only suggestions.
This list is full of great tools and utilities to help you understand how you got infected and how to keep from getting infected again.

Spybot Search & Destroy-Uber powerful tool which can search and annhilate nasties that make it onto your system. Now with an Immunize section that will help prevent future infections.

Spyware Blaster - Great prevention tool to keep nasties from installing on your system.

Spywareguard-Works as a Spyware "Shield" to protect your computer from getting malware in the first place.

IE-SPYAD- puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.

Windows Updates - It is very important to make sure that both Internet Explorer and Windows are kept current with the latest critical security patches from Microsoft. To do this just start Internet Explorer and select Tools > Windows Update, and follow the online instructions from there.

Tony Klein article To find out more information about how you got infected in the first place and some great guidelines to follow to prevent future infections you can read this article by Tony Klein.

Hi Kahdah

Thanks for all your help - computer is clearly running much much faster now

One final problem ...
I can NOT UNCHECK the "Turn off System Restore" button .. I was able to check the button and then I proceeded to uncheck the box (enabling the system restore) and I got an error messgae 2x asking me to reboot.. on the final attempt it just left my PC in limbo doing nothing - I finally manually powered down

Have I donr something worng ?... I went to the MSFT website as per your instructions and got the instructions from them - very straighforward - and now it will not allow me to uncheck the "turn off" button

any suggestions ???

thanks

Please click here > http://www.kellys-ko...storeenable.reg
Save that reg file to your desktop.
Double click it to run it then click on Yes when it asks you to merge it with the registry.
Reboot then see if it is re-enabled again.
Let me know.
