Now, I don't want to get too excited, but when I opened Internet Explorer following the DSS scan, my homepage was switched to www.msn.com!

That's great!.. Now lets do one last scan before I can set you free...

Please do an online scan with Kaspersky WebScanner

Click on Accept

You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
    Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
    • Scan Options:
    Scan Archives
    Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan:Select My Computer
  • This will program will start and scan your system.
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
  • Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
    • Now click on the Save as Text button:
  • Save the file to your desktop.
  • Copy and paste that information in your next post.

Scan process completed.

Also my anti-virus software keeps tagging this:
C:\System Volume Information\_restore{202550A8-7A33-4BCA-9586-051D24DDBF8F}\RP1137\A0091016.exe
but it can't delete it...maybe it's part of the SmitFraudFix I downloaded, because it seemed to be riddled with suspicious files.

And, my clock is in military time and I can't fix it.

Hello, to change your clock back to 12-hrs format, please navigate the tutorial link below:
http://www.pixel2lif...our_to_12_hour/

What you found is from System Restore and we will flush it later.. But for now, please manually delete this file.. Its infected..

C:\Documents and Settings\Landon\Shared\heart sutra.mp3

Please post me a fresh DSS log for my final review.. :)

Good news, your log looks clean to my eyes..

Now for some cleanup..
  • Make sure you have an Internet Connection.
  • Double-click OTMoveIt2.exe to run it. (Vista users, please right click on OTMoveit2.exe and select "Run as an Administrator")
  • Click on the CleanUp! button
  • A list of tool components used in the Cleanup of malware will be downloaded.
  • If your Firewall or Real Time protection attempts to block OtMoveit2 to reach the Internet, please allow the application to do so.
  • Click Yes to begin the Cleanup process and remove these components, including this application.
  • You will be asked to reboot the machine to finish the Cleanup process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.

Please Install/Update Sun Java

Updating Java:
  • Go to Start --> Control Panel --> Add or Remove Programs.
  • Search in the list for all previous installed versions of Java. (J2SE Runtime Environment.... )
  • It should have next icon next to it: Posted Image
  • Select it and click Remove. This will uninstall the previous (outdated) version of Java.
  • Then Download and install the newest version from here: Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 7

Let's clean your Restore Points and set a new one:

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs from changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous Restore Points which are likely to be infected)
To create a new Restore Point.
  • On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
  • Click Properties.
  • Click the System Restore tab.
  • Check Turn off System Restore.
  • Click Apply, and then click OK. This will flush your old System Restore.
  • Then please UNCHECK the Turn off System Restore.
  • Click again on Apply, and then click OK. This will create a new Restore Point
System Restore will now be active again

If you are using Windows Vista, please go HERE for tutorial on how to use, disable and enable System Restore

I noticed you already have..

1. TrendMicro Internet Security consisting of your antivirus and firewall
2. Malwarebytes' as your antispyware..

Lastly, to keep your operating system up to date please visit the link below monthly

To learn more about how to protect yourself while on the internet read this excellent article by Tony Klein: So how did I get infected in the first place?

Please also read an excellent article by miekiemoes :Help! My computer is slow!

Everything seems to be working fine now. I only have two more questions:

1) There is a file on my desktop called, Thumbs.db. Is that something I can delete?

2) I have removed most of the programs that I downloaded to help my fix this issue. The only one I can't remove is SUPERAntispyware. Can you help me remove it?

1. Just leave it there.. It's perfectly safe.. You might want to hide your hidden files/folder.. To do this, please click on My Computer
  • Click on Tools >> Folder Options..
  • Select the View tab
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Do not show hidden files and folders
  • Tick the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option
  • Tick the Hide extensions for known file types option

2. Please go to Start >> Control Panel >> Add or Remove Programs >> choose SUPERAntiSpyware and click on the Remove button..
