This is what I get when I run HijackThis: The only recent change to my system was a Microsoft download of updates yesterday, but no problems yesterday. The problem just started today.

I don't know that I'm doing this right, but I appreciate any help I can get.

Welcome to GTG.

Download Malwarebytes ' Anti-Malware at http://www.besttechi.../mbam-setup.exe or http://www.majorgeek...ware_d5756.html Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

* Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform Full Scan, then click Scan.
* The scan may take some time to finish, so please be patient.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to restart (see Extra Note below).
* The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
* Copy & paste the entire report into your next reply.

Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Go to http://www.bleepingc...to-use-combofix and follow the instructions on how to install the Recovery Console and run ComboFix. Go through all the steps until posting the log part. Post the combofix log here.

It appears to me the malware scan worked. I'm going to run combofix next but wanted to post this log as it seems to have found the adware. As you'll notice, I didn't remove the Hijack.start menu, as I think that's okay. Thanks in advance for all this help. I'll post again when I've completed the combofix.

Here's the log:

I guess that GameSpy Arcade was the culprit. You may uninstall it if you want...it has adware in it.

Run the Combofix scan and I will take a final look to see if anything else is lurking there.

I was wrong about the adware being removed. The scan removed an adware, but not the one that locks up my internet connections. Anyway, here's the log from Combofix: It's really easy to use, and all the instructions provided were very accurate and clear. I really appreciate all the help. Even if the problem doesn't fix, this was a neat experience. Thanks again.

It might not be malware locking up your connection. It could very well be another program that you use...I have seen this happen many times in the past where it's not malware related at all.

When do you get the lockups? Is there any pattern at all like certain webpages? Check your TrendMicro Firewall and make sure it's not the one causing the internet lockups. I have seen cases where the firewall had a lockdown of the computer so bad that nothing can go online.

Whatever it was, I should have tested before the last posting. My problem is fixed now. The ComboFix must have done the job. I turned the Webroot Internet Connection Shield, which was giving me the message before, and the adware is no longer there. Everything works fine. Thanks for all the quick responses. You guys are awesome.

No problem. Glad you found the program causing the problem.

Good job. Your log is clean.

To help prevent future spyware infections, read the Anti-Spyware Tutorial and use the tools provided.

Go to Start->Run, copy/paste in combofix /u and hit OK to remove it. You should be set to go.
