Sorry :) Lets get the back up issue resolved. Firewall is just a preference

Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Close all other windows before proceeding.
  • Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt -- please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.

Dj I have no idea on the back up issue. Systen restore may be the fastest option. Would you like to try that?

Lets see ifwe can disable it

1. Click Start, type taskschd.msc in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.
2. In the Task Scheduler Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in, expand Task Scheduler Library, expand Microsoft, expand Windows, and then click WindowsBackup.
Note If no backup tasks are scheduled, the WindowsBackup folder may not be displayed.
3. Click the scheduled task, and then click Disable in the Actions pane.

As for a firewall, it is mostly preference. I use the one included with vista. I have tweaked it a little and contrary to what you may read it is actually good. A lot better than the XP firewall. Have a look here and let me know what you think

Of course :)

It is clean. Let me know if the backup issue is resolved. I have no idea why it wants/wanted to backup every ten minutes

I just went back and checked it again and everything there says disabled but it is still doing it so I am not sure what is going on. Is it a windows problem or is it a gateway problem do you think?

Hello D j...

loophole asked if I would look into your problem with the backups.

Let's see if turning it off helps. If it does, we'll look at the scheduler. Open Control Panel and double click on the "Backup and Restore Manager" icon. In the Backup and Restore window that opens, in the "Back up files or your entire computer" section, click on the "Change Settings" link.

In the window that opens, click on the "Turn Off" button at the bottom. Once you have turned the feature off, reboot and see if the problem persists.
