I downloaded, installed, and ran Spybot s&d, and fixed what was recommended. I downloaded, installed, and ran spyware blaster, and also did the recommended. I downloaded HJT, and ran it just for the [bleep] of it, to see what it gathered, but i did not do anything with it. I just did that out of curiosity.
After installing the above, and fixing what was suggested be fixed, i noticed that i can't sign on to AOL via its own software. Everything starts up nicely, but when it gets to the "check password" step, AOL locks up. This happens every time. I can sign on via IE, and i have no problem doing that, but there are some very important things i can only access through AOL.
I looked for some help online, message boards and etc, and found two that i tried. One, said to look into the INF files of windows and delete the oem.inf files that did not contain anything. That worked once, but only for AIM (aim said it was a plugin problem; i wonder if AOL's plugins somehow got deleted when running the software i mentioned, but i uninstalled and reinstalled AOL and i still have the same problem. I even did a system restore, but that didn't work either).
Next, i looked at McAfee. I looked at the firewall/programs permissions an di noticed something: some of the program permissions that were there before are now gone. They no longer exist. The files that were once there are vanished.
So, what would most likely be the cause of this problem/lock up with aol software (or, what's missing), and how would i go about fixing it?
