I'm currently using a Microsoft Bluetooth mouse with my Gateway laptop. It usually works very well. However, I have some issues with what I have to do to get it to work. I think maybe I need to be directed to a "Bluetooth for dummies" website. Strangely I can't seem to find much truly introductory (non pc brand-specific) information about this out there. I know it's supposed to be plug and play... but...

All of this started because I thought my laptop came equipped with a BT internal card. It does not. Before finding that out I downloaded the official widcomm drivers and installed them. This sort of modified what already existed on my computer, which was a "My Bluetooth Places" application that always told me nothing was in range and no device could be found.

So I bought a USB BT adapter and installed the accompanying software. Now I have two BT icons in my system tray; one green (after some work, see below) and one blue/red (the original widcomm one, which has never been anything other than blue/red). Extranneous system tray icons are bad for my blood pressure, so I would like to remove the one that does nothing.

I have removed the bluetooth portion of my startup in msconfig, which leaves "bluesoleil" which is the software that came with my usb bt adapter. But that seems to make it hard or impossible to connect my mouse once startup is complete.

And, by the way, do I have to manually connect a BT mouse every time I start up? Half the time I have to try six times to even get the bluesoleil software to connect to the mouse. I can't "pair" anything becaue that option seems to disappear once I successfully connect the mouse. But if I try to pair before connecting it fails over and over.

So a couple issues, making BT use annoying to say the least.

Any advice is helpful, and if no one has any that's okay too. The mouse works and I guess I can handle staring at the blue/red icon and having to try to connect over and over every morning and after lunch ;)
