Hi,

I started a topic earlier but I was at work and I'm sure I was too vague. I have been hijacked by what seems to be the "ie Defender" malware...the nature of the problem is identical to what is described here, but there are slight differences in the actual messages.

I followed the instructions given, but after choosing the "Clean" option (2), I am seeing "path not found" and "system cannot be specified" errors, and the only thing that remains on the screen is the background and one of the bogus warning pop ups.

I am currently writing this from my laptop and I have the problem PC disconnected from the Internet.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

UPDATE:

Although I was not able to successfully confirm that SmitFraudFix process completed, it must have done something because my PC seems to be running fine now. I will move forward with cautious optimism. I installed a Windows Update for "Windows Defender" which I just noticed was available....not sure if it had anything to do with it or not.

So, although everything seems fine, I plan to check back here occasionally for any responses or advice.

Thanks again.

NOTE: I did not see the option to delete posts...was going to consolodate this update into my original post. My apologies.
