Hi,

What a great site! I've disabled the indexing service per the xp tweaks instructions but I can't seem to get rid of the indexing icon which is the magnifying glass on the bottom tool bar. If I right click and select exit it just appears again next time i've re-started.

I've looked in startup in msconfig but can't see anything running that closely resembles it.

Any ideas anyone?

Cheers

Hi Pipette, and welcome to Geeks to Go!

I'm not sure what instructions you followed, but here are some things you can try to disable the indexing service from starting again.

First, in msconfig, are you looking under Startup or Services? Look under Services, and make sure the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box is not checked.

Failing that, go to Start > Run and enter services.msc and press Enter, which will open the Services control dialog box. Look through this list, and see if you can find the Indexing Service here. If you can, double-click it which will open the Properties box, then set the Startup type to Disabled. Click Apply, then OK.

See what happens and report back!
