Hi,

As far as I can see, Combofix could remove the infection now. Just one leftover to deal with...

Open notepad and copy and paste next present in the quotebox below in it:
(don't forget to copy and paste REGEDIT4)

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SafeBoot\Minimal\Winwe30.sys]

Save this as fix.reg Choose to save as *all files and place it on your desktop.
It should look like this:
Doubleclick on it and when it asks you if you want to merge the contents to the registry, click yes/ok.
(In case you are unsure how to create a reg file, take a look here with screenshots.)

Then, go to start > run and copy and paste next command in the field:

sc delete Winwe30

Hit enter. A black dosprompt will quickly open and close again. That's all what it's supposed to do.

Can you also post a new HijackThislog please?
Also let me know how things are running now...

I ran the reg.fix. New Hijackths.txt is below. It is too early to tell how it is running. Hope it has cured all the problems. I cannot thank you enough.

Hi,

This looks OK again.

Your version of Java is outdated and needs to be updated to take advantage of fixes that have eliminated security vulnerabilities.
Updating Java:

• Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 7.
• Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 7".
• Click the "Download" button to the right.
• For Platform, select "Windows"
• For language, select your language
• Read the License agreement and then Check the box that says: "I agree to the Java SE Runtime Environment 6 License Agreement".
• Click Continue
• Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save to your desktop.
• Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
• Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
• Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  - Examples of older versions in Add or Remove Programs:
  • Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2
  • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0
  • Java™ 6 Update 5
• Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
• Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
• Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
• Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u7-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.

* Go to start > run and copy and paste next command in the field:

ComboFix /u

Make sure there's a space between Combofix and /
Then hit enter.

This will uninstall Combofix, delete its related folders and files, reset your clock settings, hide file extensions, hide the system/hidden files and resets System Restore again.

I thank you once again for your help.
I completed your instructions. So far it looks good. Except, it has shutdown (standby - different from before where it powered down completely before) twice in <10 mins of reboot eventhough poweron was set for not to shutdown.

I had forgotten to disable the firewall and antivirus before uninstall of combofix so it had a false capture. It may have left some remnants of combofix. How do I remove it completely. Re-running it is not an option because it is not there.

Hijackthis log is attached. Are all these required?
BTW, I also got invalid procedure call error while invoking Hijackthis (which i did not see before).

Hi,

If you could run the Combofix /u without any problems, then it should be OK and uninstalled properly.
For your "shutdown" issue... as far as I understand here is - it goes in "standby" mode? No BSOD or whatever?
If that's the case, then it's rather a hardware issue. There could be several causes... bad sectors on your drive, a problem with the temperature, (dirt - dust between the cpu fan and other fans, so make sure they are spinning freely and there is a good airflow through the computer)
In anyway, this happens in most cases when there's too much stress put on your CPU. I see you have several "ram tools" and "speed it up" tools installed... Smartdefrag, Smartram, Speeditup Free (which wasn't present before). As a matter of fact, I do not recommend any of them since they can make your problem worse... or be the cause in the first place.

Also, I have used Sygate Firewall in the past and the reason why I uninstalled it again is because, after a while, my computer wasn't able to shut down at all. Everytime when I wanted to shut down my computer, it rebooted instead. Windows acts like this if it hasn't been shut down properly, so it reboots to restore the error. And Sygate was the cause in my case. So, who knows it's Sygate being the cause here as well?
The only way to figure out is to temporary uninstall it - this to eliminate potential causes.
