So I recently built a desktop, and everything works wonderfully. However, my optical drive does not recognize DVDs. Reading CDs? No problem. I needed to swap out the drive to install my OS, and I thought the issue would consequently be resolved. I was wrong. Here are my specs...

OS: Vista Ultimate (100% legit)
MOBO: Intel DG965WH
CPU: Intel Pentium D 940 Dual Core
VPU: ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT
Memory: 4GB DDR2
Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST31000340AS 1TB
Optical Drive: Sony CRX320E DVD/CD-RW

Any idea(s) as to what would cause this?

sounds like you need a new dvd drive. if it didn't work from the moment you hooked it up and another drive did I'd say the dvd laser isn't working....

So there are separate elements for the DVD and CD functions? Because reading CDs isn't a problem. :)
