Dear community,

This weekend i downloaded a file I should not have. Immediately I started getting pop ads for anti-spyware options and then icons for porn sites were placed on my desktop. If i deleted these icons, they would just come back. My Mcafee virus protection seemed corrupted as well at this point. None of my web browsers would work either. It has taken me all weekend, but I have been able to remove mcafee (in safe mode), install symantec and scan my computer. It has removed a lot of viruses and trojans that must have been placed this weekend. It is operating a little better. However, I can still NOT open firefox. I click on it and nothing happens. I uninstalled it, reinstalled it.......nothing. I can open IE but it is slow and it wont let me open certain websites, such as this one that would allow me to figure out how to get the virus. Symantec now is not picking up any viruses but the computer is still definitely infected. Also, I feel like the virs has attacked symantec and compromised its ability to work well. Aside from not being able to open firefox, IE is also giving me a lot of popups for anti spyware sites. Please, I am not a very computer savy guy and I have spent literally all weekend getting my computer half way functioning but I very much need your help. Here is my Highjack this log.

Hello, my name is fenzodahl512 and welcome to Geekstogo.. Please do the following..

Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) from HERE or HERE and save it to your Desktop.
  • Close all other windows before proceeding.
  • Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
  • Please let your firewall allow the scanning/downloading process.
  • When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt -- please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.
If you are using Vista, you need to right-click at dss.exe icon and choose Run as Administrator

Please visit below webpage for instructions for downloading and running ComboFix

http://www.bleepingc...to-use-combofix

This includes installing the Windows XP Recovery Console in case you have not installed it yet.

For more information on the Windows XP Recovery Console read http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314058.

Once you install the Recovery Console, when you reboot your computer, you'll see the option for the Recovery Console now as well. DO NOT select Recovery Console as we don't need it. By default, your main OS is selected there. The screen stays for 2 seconds and then it proceeds to load Windows. That is normal.

Post the log from ComboFix (located in C:\combofix.txt) when you've accomplished that, along with a new HijackThis log.

hey, i have installed the recovery console. I removed all anti spyware programs from my computer, turned off its firewall and then downloaded the combofix.exe file to the computer. however whenever i double click it, it just wont open. nothing happens. i have deleted and downloaded combofix from all 3 different websites available and none of them work. something is definitely blocking it on my infected computer. any ideas?

I haven't seen any antivirus in your logs.. Antivirus is extremely crucial as without it you will get re-infected again! Do you have any? If you don't, please install ONLY ONE of these free and excellent antivirus below:

I also haven't seen any third-party firewall in your logs.. Do you have any? If you don't, please install ONLY ONE of these free and excellent firewall below:
After you install the third party firewall, please disable your Windows firewall. Please go to My Computer >> Control Panel >> Windows Firewall and choose Off (not recommended) option. Then please click Apply and Ok.

NEXT

1. Please open Notepad
  • Click Start, then Run
  • Type notepad.exe in the Run Box.

2. Now copy/paste the entire content of the codebox below into the Notepad window:

KillAll::

File::
C:\WINDOWS\system32\agesypck.ini
C:\WINDOWS\system32\kcpysega.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\krnxlydd.ini
C:\WINDOWS\system32\onmnhmyl.dll

Folder::
C:\VundoFix Backups
C:\Program Files\Viewpoint
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Viewpoint
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Viewpoint

Registry::
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"00f67eee"=-

3. Save the above as CFScript.txt

4. Then drag the CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe as depicted in the animation below. This will start ComboFix again.

Posted Image

5. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), please post the following reports/logs into your next reply:
  • Combofix.txt
  • A new HijackThis log.

I dont have any anti spyware or firewall on the computer because they were initially infected with the virus and so i took them off. i havnt reloaded them because combofix instructions it was better to remove antispyware and turn off firewalls while it was running.

I have been using the internet on my other computer and downloading onto a zip drive and transfering files to the infected computer that way.

You didnt indicate what the combofix, hijack this, all these logs mean. did you see the virus on them? did they remove the virus?

once i reload the antispyware and firewall, is it safe to start using that computer now?

Lets do the ComboFix step and as soon after that, please install ONE antivirus and ONE firewall.. Don't forget to post the logs here :)

Yes, I see some malware (Vundo) in your computer and we'll need to get rid of them first :)

Looks good.. How is your computer now?

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from HERE or HERE

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Full Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.
Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove,you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts,click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer,please do so immediatly.

Please also include a fresh DSS log (after Malwarebytes' step) in your next reply...
