the usb ports will power any device from a mouse to a camera but the machine will not access the devices. for example the mouse's optic will light up but it will not even try to install and a camera will charge via usb but again will not even try to install and will not even show up in my computer.

already i have tried uninstalling the universal serial bus drivers from device manager then rebooted so it reinstalled them automatically. i am currently doing a backup and will then attempt a repair install. any other ideas would be helpfull and appreciated will post if anything works.

Check in your BIOS to see if USB is enabled there. Not being enabled in the bios tells windows the USB ports are not Available for use.

You also might look in the registry to see what the setting for USBSTOR is.

Open registry and navigate to the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet \Services\UsbStor

Now in the right pane, double-click Start and type 4 in the Value data box (Hexadecimal) to

Disable USB and quite the registry editor. To enable the USB storage devices, change the Start

value back to 3.
